Australian Budget Crisis - Common Sense Solutions
ADS94
My fellow Australians,
As the average citizen wakes up today to work at their companies, to train in the barracks, or to fight for our country, they think of nothing but how good another day will be. But, for the political class, we are involved in taking on one of the issues that will shape Australia's future. Currently in the Senate we are debating about how to tackle the massive Government Debt we are starting to face.
While I will applaud Cerb's idea, http://community.auserepublik.com/index.php?topic=6772, It is a way to cover the current budget and pretty much keep our citizen's monetary supply the same; something needs to be done now about the budget. We are spending like we are Poland. We don't have 62,702 citizens, we have 3,459.
The government is currently overloaded with Government Funded Companies, failed departments, and alliances we simply cannot support. I am not here to suggest that we slash defense spending by large swaths, I voted in favour of the largest military budget there is; I am, instead, suggesting that we must choose between who we ally with. We cannot afford to support Sol, EDEN, and MPPs with a lot of counties, these are expensive, and we do not have enough to support it all.
It is here today that I wish to tell the citizens of this country that I am here to offer a simple 3-step solution to this problem:
1. Raise Income taxes by a rate of 2%, but it is matched with a 4% cut in Government Spending. VAT taxes will also be decreased at the same rate.
2. Create a separate Government Entity for the purpose of storing funds to help Australia's citizens and the government in the coming V2 transition.
3. When it has been deemed a necessary amount, Income taxes will be decreased to current rates as we see today. But, for every 1% decrease in Income taxes, it must be accompanied by a .5% decrease in spending.
These steps will help ensure that Australia's budget remains in a surplus, and citizens of this nation can keep more money in their pocket to invest and use it for what ever they want. If this is not check now, there will be nothing stopping the government from expanding it's power to it's fullest extent, taxing the citizens so their money can be used for "the greater good", and eventually creating a government so powerful that citizens will leave Australia in waves, decreasing our already small population.
I hope that our Parliament takes the path of fiscal sanity and decides to do the unpopular and hard thing now, to ensure prosperity for Australia's future. Will we take the road of the RL United States of America? Or will we take the road to a brighter future, where Australia CAN support this spending and where Australia CAN be a Superpower.
Thank you all, and may you all Advance Australia Fair!

Common Sense Solutions
As it's been said on the forums:
Which would you like to cut funding to: Military (no more weps for some AAR most likely), GFCs (no more weps stockpile), Centrelink (no more Q5 Hospitals - which will be needed more frequently after V2 comes out), or MPP with our EDEN allies (which provides our population with wellness, EXP, and faster ranking up)?
As I have outlined, Military alliances need to be chosen wisely, some need to be dropped. GFCs need to be reduced to a reasonable level. You use specific parts of the budget which are essential, yet you leave the non-essential, unknown parts alone. This is where I am looking for cuts. All of these things became "necessary", when in fact they are just luxuries that we can live without to ensure the growth and prosperity of this nation.
So where and how would you like the cuts to be made?
Cut's would start with a decreased roll in the Sol Alliance. It would then expand into slashing all non-essential GFCs to a smaller funding status, then start by turning some GFCs into Private Companies that operate on contracts with the Government, but not funded by them. Cut back on Contests, Advertising and Miscellaneous costs carried out by the departments; I would not tell them what to cut, they know how it works far better than me, I would just tell them to cut X% to make the budget work, and finally establish some sort of GFC that is able to turn a hefty profit.
Very nice article Frymonmon,
Sub'd, voted, commented 😛
The government doesn't care about fixing the budget. They are still in denial that they are using too much money.
Choices have to be made. That is what governments are elected to do - make choices.
Yeah... right! a temporary increase in income tax? how temporary is temporary?
We are like the USA in RL... too much military expenditure full stop! Work on the effective alliances and what military support we give (I buy my own weapons for helping our allies) but I think if the defence of the nation was at stake we should use government supplied weapons as well.
so... during our relatively quiet time now there is no excuse for a massive military budget... I think.
Voted, something needs to be done
in order:
alliances that do not provide us with wars are pointless. Malaysia, Greece, plus an EDEN top dog for emergency defense are all we need.
We already have more than sufficient hospitals; the one placed in WA was a mistake. Sto producing them; instead hire the hospital out to a small nation so they can make hospitals for themselves.
Weapons spend on wargames are a frivolous waste, they should only be distributed for real battles.
The GFCs are dead weight, instead help private companies stockpile.

"Currently in the Senate we are debating about how to tackle the massive Government Debt we are starting to face."
i think you are exaggerating the situation with this statement Fry, a country cannot go into debt. Unless money was actually physically borrowed from another country.
the truth is the major income of all gov'ts is the money printing, the only real concern would be at some point printing too much AUD causing de-valuation of the currency. (which is actually good for exports of say diamonds/grain )
furthermore: you wrote
"create a separate Government Entity for the purpose of storing funds to help Australia's citizens and the government in the coming V2 transition."
You're basically saying you want to stockpile Aud or Gold.... i'm sure the gov't already has an ORG such as a "Australia Revenue Agency" or something like this to do this in... but stockpiling money IS a good idea.
Fry overall based on this article anyway i don't think you fully understand the situation, and as such your ideas don't fully encompass it either.
to me it sounds like you're saying "we should be saving more"...rather than "we're going in debt" which may be a valid point.
in regards to GFC's.. everyone hates them until their country gets invaded and their are no weapons to go around.... We learned this lesson in Canada. Consider them the insurance policy for the countries' defense.
but then again what do i know.. you're in senate and i'm not.
