A Path For Change

Day 2,153, 21:03 Published in South Korea South Korea by the tormented one

For the past 3 years, we have tried to get all our land back. And we have seen some partial success, and plenty of disappointments. We have seen babybooms, and many of them have left without anything achieved.

Where did it all go wrong?

The reason is complicated. But it is important to understand them, so that we can come up with a better plan for the future.

1. Game Mechanism
We have a number of babybooms, on one stage, we got to 7000 people, but very few have remained in the game. However the game mechanism restricted how fast people can grow, unless of course you are a slave of Plato (gold buyer), then you probably need maybe 3-6 months to get to something like 1000 strength. It is hard to keep player's interest if we can't make them feel they are making a difference in the game.

The game mechanism is not just a problem for eSK, but it also make it hard for legitimate new players to be interested in the game, especially if you are not a good buyer, and especially if you are on the winner side.

2. eSK governance

i. Domestic Priority

Over the past 2 years, there is an unrealistic expectation that we need to get back on the map. We were successful in a number of occasions, but these attempts had been short-lived. The result why is because we over-relying on other country's help to get back on the map rather than spending the time and energy to develop our army. While getting back on the map should be our ultimate goal. There are a lot we need to do to guarantee we stay on the map.

Our national priority should be based on building a strong eSK army from the inside first, and develop international tie should be rather than trying to get our country to help us back on the map.

ii. Government

Government and organisations are important elements of the eSK community. In the past, I sense the government isnt playing enough of a role in the community. In real life, in a democratic society, what people want in real life ultimately is probably happiness, so you want your government to leave people alone, right? So, you have the freedom to pursue that happiness.

But in a game like this where how many lands you have, or how many battles you win is more important than the happiness or the quality of life of your citizen. Then teamwork and leadership is more important than other things.

So we need a functioning government which will organise the battles, coordinate between the MUs, educate the new players, help the poor, create the link between eSK players. And of course, manage international relationships. You are elected to do it, it is a huge responsibility, but it can also have a big reward when you see improvement in the community under your leadership.

3. The pathway to change

It is easier to solve the problem once you identify what the problem is. But this is by no mean easy because it is a big project. So to overcome something this big, we need to break this down into smaller tasks.

Here's an example of a roadmap I purposed. I am posting this for discussion only, and people can feel free to discuss.

NOW - 3 MONTHS onwards

- We need to concentrate our attack power. We can make eSKers into one very powerful MU. eSK is not as weak as the 100 something voters reported by someone in another article, we have lots of players in other countries. But we dont usually work together even between MUs.

This effort can be lead by the ministry of defense in the eSK government, and their responsibility will be talking to all the MUs and help them organise themselves and send order to the MU leaders each day to tell them what battle priority to set.

The aim of this is to turn a poorly organised group of players into a powerful fighting force that will deliver a lot of damage at a critical time for our allies. On one hand, this allows us to earn this sort of organisation skills in a real battle situation, and we can use these skills in the battles to get our land back when we are ready. On another hand, this will help us to improve our international recognition from our friends and allies. To complement this, we should get all eSKers, whether they are currently eSK citizen or otherwise to have a SK flag in their avatar for easy identification.

- We should resume the role of welfare on a national level, it is very difficult for someone new to grow in this game. So, I believe the government should have a role to assist them. This included education and training and daily free food or weapon for new players.

3 MONTHS TO 1 YEAR

- With these policies in place, we need to look at policies in a longer term that will improve activeness on an individual level, for example, increase the number of active fighters and help them to support themselves, so instead of the government helping them all the time, they can be self sufficient in a longer term.

At the moment, there is about 100 or so active fighters from eSK. We should set target for let say we will double this in 3 months and quatrouple this number in a year. A target help us to have something to aim at. If we can do this, we will have a pretty strong D1, D2 by then.

- Our government should collect statistics to evaluate the effective of their policy.

1 YEAR ONWARDS

- With our domenstic policies in place to support new players. If we are successful to get them to stay and organised. We will have a pretty formintable army. That will give us a better chance to get our land back.
