Six years ago today I found myself on eRepublik.com for the first time.

I've lived a number of 'lives' in that time, and literally only one other person knows them all. He has long since left this realm, and I'm not sure if I'll ever make them all public (cause really, what's the fun in that?), but the fact that this game allows people to explore different aspects of their personality has always been one of the biggest reasons I've stuck around.

We've seen the rise and fall of empires, and I mean real ones, not the poor imitation people have tried to build since, nor the crappy 'module' the wigs gave us.

Long time players leading groups of tanks to tear down walls or to hold up the crumbling defenses of their home have been replaced by 'domination points'. The battles being cut into neat little chunks so as to artificially inflate suspense and sap gold from players has caused me to care less about the war mod each day...despite recently reaching the 'highest rank' for the third time.

Of the three, becoming a Field Marshal easily meant the most. As I changed accounts once in 2008, once in 2009, once in 2010, and then back to this 2009 account, I wasn't ever really a 'tank' in the days when such things really mattered. But I did make Field Marshal before they killed it (twice, actually), so I suppose there is that.

I've been President, run alliances, done all the stuff actually worth doing at some point...I even filled out that damn medal rack. Heck, according to Bonte each eRep month is 4 'years'...so today would be my two hundred eighty eighth birthday. Factor in the age and all the faces I've worn and the only conclusion is that I must be regenerating.

In years to come, I might find myself revisiting a few of those faces.


But just the old favorites

Now is when I planned to list out a whole bunch of names of people with whom I've played and become friends with over the years...but that would be an incredibly long list (and rather tiresome). So, I'm just going to say that if you think you'd be on the list, you probably would be. Some stand outs includes a surly drunkard, and a faithful companion who are very much my brothers and deserving of special recognition.

The one I am forced to name outright is Dishmcds. His sixth birthday was three days ago, and while he's more dead than alive these days he is still one of the oldest and best players I've known in the game. Too bad he had to go and have a kid and get all 'busy'.

I'll close this out here, as there really isn't much left to say. The rise and (continuing) fall of eRep has been a large part of my life for six years now, for good and bad. I don't think we'll ever see another golden age, but I'll hold out hope until they shutter this place.
