A couple weeks ago, I was chatting online on my military unit’s room in IRC channel when someone introduced me about one of tourist resorts in Serbia. He mentioned Kopaonik. Somehow I became interested to know more about Kopaonik, so I gathered and collected some information about Kopaonik on the internet. Later, I got some information that actually there are six national parks in Serbia. Nevertheless, there are only two major and famous sights I knew, the Kopaonik National Park and Tara National Park.

Kopaonik Mountains, one of the largest mountain ranges in Serbia, are located in Central Serbia. The Kopaonik National Park was established in 1981. It spreads over 118,1 square kilometers on the plateau of the Kopaonik Mountains, called Suvo Rudiste. The park is inhabited by several species of birds and covered by coniferous trees. The Samokovska River flows over the park, completing the beauty of the park. The highest point of Kopaonik is called Pančić's Peak, which about 2,017 meters above sea level. Furthermore, Kopaonik also become a main destination for skiing and snowbaording in winter. It has 24 ski lifts and gondolas, with 70 km of ski slopes for all categories. There are many hotels, tourist atractions, bars, cafes, and even night clubs. During 23 to 29 march every year, there is a music festival here, called Big Snow Festival, which performs international reggae, jazz, and electronic music by musicians and performers around the world.

The second national park is Tara National Park. It is situated in Western Serbia. The park was also established in 1981, and nominated to UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2002. Tara National Park spreads about 220 square kilometers, with altitudes varying from 250 to 1,500 meters above sea level. It filled by mountain peaks, gorges, karst caves, pits, and springs. The Drina Gorge has become the integral part of the park, which drops from 250 to 1000 meters. It also has an endemic flora species, the Picea omorika, which also known as Serbian spruce. Many kind of animals also inhabit the park, such as brown bears, chamois, roe deer, lynxes, otters, wolves, and birds. Kaluđerske Bare becomes the main tourist points in Tara.

The Tara National Park and Kopaonik National Park have become famous sights in Serbia. Besides those two, there are other interesting sights and national parks in Serbia, including Đerdap, Šar Mountain, Fruška Gora, Prokletije, and Homolje. I have a plan to study abroad somewhere in Europe. And during my study, I hope I can visit Serbia and its sights, at least the Kopaonik and Tara. Here are some pictures of Kopaonik and Tara which I took from the internet.
