Nostalgia seems to be a running theme in this game these days

Remember the old days? Remember when we'd have dozens of articles in the eUS every day, and getting your article in the top5 for at least a couple hours wasn't by any means a given? Do you remember a time before the gradual decline of activity in eRepublik was obvious?

Well I'm a little nutty, in that I think gradual decline is not a given. I think that, with a little bit of work, we can have (at the very least a temporary) an increase in activity.

What kind of work is involved? Well, we need to provide people with a reason to log in, something dramatic or exciting they can follow. Increasing the amount of players in the eUS is an optional goal, and directly paying for writing is something that's been tried in the past with mixed results, but that reason to log in is the one thing that is absolutely necessary in order to keep players in the game. Otherwise, any other recruitment or artificial activity incentives will fail.

That's why I think Pit of Death is such a great idea, and it's why I'm really grateful for Odysseus offering to pay for a writing contest hosted by yours truly.

The Contest

The contest itself is pretty simple. The total budget is 500k. Everyone who writes at least one article before Monday will get an equal share of that 500k. Then the contest repeats every week for the foreseeable future.

Simple, right? Well let's get to it!
Happy writing!

And remember, stay Jazzy! 😎
