Who *** **** is King Michael? - part 1

There is a new MU in the Switzerland and it is called King Michael Military Academy.

Maybe you are curious about the name. Well, he was a Romanian King and a relevant figure of XX century European history. His link to Switzerland is that he lived most of his live there.

He was king of Romania, first between the world wars, from the age of 6 till the age of 9. His father, King Carol II (Carol is Romanian for Karl, not a girls name), was a very impulsive and free man. He had fallen in love with his mistress and had abandoned the throne. So, when his grandfather died, the little child was crowned king.



However, after a few years, his father changed his mind, came back in Romania and claimed the throne.



We are now approaching the beginning of WWII. Romania was in a very difficult position. It had obtained enormous gains after WWI and it had a lot to loose. Which indeed happened. Russia and Germany (Stalin and Hitler) agree to redraw the borders of Europe. One of the countries affected by this agreement is Romania. part of the country goes to Hungary, another part goes to Russia, another part goes to Bulgaria.



However, King Carol II does not react. People are furious and he has to abdicate. King Michael becomes king once more.



Michael is King, Marshal Antonescu becomes military dictator and Romania enters the war with Germany and against Russia. At first the military operations go well, the Romanian Army recovers the eastern territory it had lost and advances well into enemy territory.



However, soon after, things begin to change. It becomes clear that Germany is loosing the war, which would mean disaster for Romania. Marshal Antonescu does not want to hear about abandoning Germany. He considers Michael a child. A plot is set up and King Michael, at only 23 years, proves he has "cojones" by arresting Antonescu and changing sides. Romania now fights with the Russians and against the Germans.

At the end of WWII the final borders of Romania are set. They are still valid today and in this game.



But that is not all that changes. Romania is behind the Iron Courtain and the Russians impose a comunist regime which was clearly incompatible with the monarchy. King Michael is forced to abdicate in 1947 and goes into a long exile in Switzerland.
