Join the new world

A book is a door to a way to see the world, so it should have a good presentation and a good structure for transmit their message

As you can see here, this is going to be a different article.

As you could know, I have a very long time writing articles here. I have written about a lot of things, some of which have their own flavor, but all of these have something constant: Everything is related to Erepublik in some way.

So you might ask: why?

Being a writer in Erepublik is not easy work as you can imagine. And we can say that this little module in the new world has their own purpose, but also is something that has been in a huge crisis since many years ago.

Writing here is something that not all people are able to do, or have not interest in doing so. There is a window in Erepublik that you can see how everything was recorded in the past. Not just by writing history, but interactions.

Because here we have something: Comments. And as some people I know say: This is a Social Network. A social Network with a Character by yourself.

So you may actually think: What I’m telling you about? Well, keep reading about what I want you to see how this module works. And what is happening to this section in Erepublik.

So I’m going to describe to you my observations about the Media Module.



First Observation: There are limitations

Sometimes it is not that hard, but sometimes it is.

What could you write about this world, if there is no social interaction?

People in the past used to write the orders in a MoD Org. As Orders, (Which now is not necessary as you have your country shout feed) And did this kind of stuff more “social”.

You also cannot, or you are not allowed to write about some stuff.

I present to you: The Message from Euphrosyne

This article is basically a reclamation of an Austrian writer that was stopped by the admin because her articles were considered as “spam” This citizen was called Teh Famzay. Probably most of you are very “new” for remember who was her. But well, She was one of the people I remember that played here in my eBaby times.

It was because of people like her, Rangeley, (And also OEBernd, which by the way, thank you for write something in the media) Which I became a writer in Erep Also because I like to say my most transparent unliked opinion which caused me a lot of problems but well, it had a lot of fun.

So, as you can see, people wrote a lot of things, but with some limitations. And as you see limitations, you need to become creative.

That limitation about what you need to write here, is one of the reasons why the media is somehow empty. If we need a change in the game, we need to change that. Make a revolution in the media module. (I mean, I put money here, maybe I have some right to ask for some changes)

Second Observation: Sections

Some people wrote as “World News” which was one very good way to be informed about what is happening in the new world (I really miss those news) I know what is happening in some places in Latin America, because I have very close contact with people in their government. Or with some nations in Nebula because of the same reason.

In my eyes, I want to see how the world is, and how the big blocks move around. I like to see how the big machine works. Movements, alliances, actions, and drama.

But in the practical way I don’t know if that could be very optimal here. Maybe that could be interesting if you have Holdings in Perú or want to see how the political situation in places could affect us.

As I had always seen here, I divide the world in the following: The big guys (Basically Serbia, Croatia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Romania, Poland, Spain Argentina, and maybe Greece and MKD) The chaotic guys (The US, and maybe Peru) The regional powers: (Indonesia, Brasil, Iran, Russia) and the rest.

Knowing what is happening, have its purpose: Strategy.

Today to get that information is something more restrained as you could imagine. In the past I was not a MOFA, but I had an idea how the world was divided. Now, I see how everything is moving out by interactions. Something done in a different way for the same purpose.

Maybe I should try to do some world review, but I need some motivation about it. 🙂

And of course, me speaking Spanish is a way to make us more connected with the Spanish speaking world, but maybe, just maybe, we need to expand the curiosity pool.

When the way we receive information changes, then the media module begins to suffer. As not just in Erepublik the way to express ourselves changes, but also...

Third Observation: Generational change

Maybe it is a generational change, I don't know, but I suspect about it. And the only think I know, it is that everyone changes. And that being said the new generations are different to those that had been established here.

Think about it for a moment. In RL, older generations obtain information and interact with each other in their own ways. There are not ways, just ways to be a receptor and communicate.

How do the admins send information to players?

Well, maybe you don’t know it, but Plato have a Newspaper

He used to send information there before. Why? Because this was the way for players to write news in Erepublik. The media was mainly news about anything related to Erepublik, But in a period of time, Plato stopped doing that and becan to use a “Twitter way” to spread information. (Which to be honest, I personally don’t like twitter, so I don’t use it.

I don’t know what you think, but in those times, Plato was more like us, more like the government officials who wrote their reports, or made an announcement. And everytime becomes more like Twitter. The feed in Erep looks more like twitter. And I don’t judge him, or other people. The world had been moved into that way, from those times, the media had been in stagnation.

And as many of us are players that have been here a long time, our life changes, and our mind also changes. Sometimes you cannot do the same thing you did 5 or 10 years ago. The modes of writing changes, just as mine do. You cannot be the same by the years. Which by the way...

Fourth Observation: Evolution of writers

For those who remember my crazy years, you can imagine how I wrote. And also there is something that I remember a lot: Old PrinceOfAustria always told me: “I have problems understanding your writings” Which to be honest, he was right.

At that time, I had only around 3 years living in the US, and it was also my third year learning English. So my writing abilities in that language were not so good. Still, as I was learning English, my teachers told me: The more simpler you write, the better. Writing a very long sentence without punctuation marks and with over explications is very exhausting.

So, during my Mexican University Years, I also learned how to write properly, as I became more academic, the important reason why you want to write, is to send information to a particular audience. ( I am not a perfect writer, I still have room to improve, but this is like a journey)

Then everything fits. My English became stronger, and my writing skills improved a lot. Therefore, I write so much better. And, I know, If older PrinceOfAustria could see my articles and observe how much I have improved he could say: Thats so much better.

This is one of the motivations I have for keeping writing. With practice, you can improve. You develop a genre of writing, and also a way to give information you want to transmite.

I use English here in the US, but the only place I write it is in Erepublik. That is another reason why I keep writing, but… there are some new challenges

Fifth Observation: Design

In the past, you had more writers, That means there were more ways to make newspapers.
Graphic Designs actually improve a lot how you make an article, and makes them more attractive to players to read it.

I present you: Loliicapri’s Newspaper

This is one example of someone who decided to play a little bit with the graphics and makes the articles more unique.

Every Article has their name, their structure, and their mode. It may have a genre, or a style. It may just be a space for expressing your opinion. It may be part of a national treasure.

Can you see the little Corner Template in the bottom-left? I did it. And only 6 countries in Erepublik have them.
There are particular ways to show how to present your information and make them more readable to people.

Not just graphics, are important, also the structure.

After these 5 observations… my announcement

I want to tell you that my newspaper will have some changes. I still have no exact example of what I want to change, and taking in consideration some details, I need to find new ways I present information. Most of these changes will be the graphics. And maybe I’ll try to reinvent myself in presenting some new “categories”

And you know me, I have some unique features in my newspaper. As I know how to put “music” in some images. That actually was my idea. And I keep using it.

I use two languages, but that is not something I invented.

Why I want to do that?

Because I think there are some ideas I wanted to implement some time ago. I really wanted it, and maybe it is time to explore.

Images are nice, yes, but I want more…

I know I do not have a degree in graphic design, but I have some college related to Anthropology, so I know stuff I can talk about. I also have imagination, and maybe I can do something that will make an influence to others.

As you can see here, King Dom Miguel O Vader (currently known as Rangeley for now) did a tribute to Rangeley.

And Rangeley was a very talented writer. He was a person who shaped and faced the identity of eAustria in such places as in the Wiki or in his Articles. And remember, as I sai😛 Maybe Austria is not a big country, but is the country of 2 things: The country of diplomacy, and the country of writers.

Diplomacy is something you build by time. But also, Writing is something you sharpen over time.

Maybe I don’t make more people to write, but if there is something I can do, is try to convince the newcomers to see that after all, Erepublik is a corner where you can explore some of your abilities, such as writing.

I used this game to sharpen my writing, and maybe someone will follow my steps. Or maybe not. But there is not way to find it if I don’t try.
