Greetings Bastards and assorted friends,

As many of you already know, I am running for Party President of the Bastards of Liberty this month. I write to you today to share some more detail about my motivations and plans for the party.

This month we have four great candidates for the position. You can hear from them all by clicking HERE and taking some time to read the transcript of the Bastard PP debate which was held late Monday night (and into Tuesday morning for most of us).

One of my primary motivations for seeking to become PP right now is to protect the positive image of the party that has been hard-earned over the course of its existence. We have always prided ourselves in championing transparency throughout the game, giving everyone in our organization an equal voice, and representing ourselves to other parties and players with integrity, honestly, and civility.

Recently, some indefensible comments and behavior by a handful of party members around the time of the Country President election were republished for a broad audience, calling into question at least in the minds of some the party's reputation. Apologies were made and accepted, but the damage was done.

I know, as everyone who is or has been a Bastard or friend of the party knows, that the recent incidents do not reflect the true character of this party. Nevertheless, we must minimize the risk of further such incidents.

Our current PP has accomplished some very important goals for the party, and I thank him for his service as both VP and PP, as well as the opportunity he afforded me to remain as Party Liason when he took office. Together we implemented Rick's Congressional election plan and won an unprecedented three seats. We've had good times.

Unfortunately, though, the very passion that has served Rick well in many ways has also proven a detriment in others. For example, he often is compelled to engage what he calls trolls (often from one party in particular) in heated discussions in shout threads and article comments, and too often these discussions devolve into simple flame wars that not only do not accomplish anything positive for the party, but can reflect poorly on our party in the minds of others--even those who fundamentally agree with Rick and our party generally. As we have seen recently, such situations have the potential to threaten our entire image and destroy the goodwill that we have spent so much time building.



I believe this party stands at an important crossroads. We are growing our numbers and making our ideas heard through an increased media presence, in Congressional discussions on all of the most important issues facing our country, and through our party founder's recent candidacy for Country President. As we push farther out into the eUS national stage, the focus on our party's personality and integrity will only continue to sharpen. We have to put our best foot forward to avoid regressing into relative obscurity or even worse: infamy.



As Party Liason, I have forged friendships, trust, and good working relationships with most of the top ten parties in our country. Most importantly, I have done so without compromising the ideals found in our party Manifesto and our every day party discussions. Being friends with people in rival parties does not mean we will capitulate to a stronger party's will or be otherwise subjugated. Since becoming a Senator, I have advocated tirelessly on issues important to our party and have never shied away from weighing in with my opinion on all important issues of the day. Regardless of who leads the party, we will continue to fight hard for everything we believe in. Ultimately it is up to you, the voters, to decide which leadership style you want to proceed forward with.

Proposed Party Cabinet

Vice Party President: Joseph Dinero--JD is the party founder, knows more of the party members personally than any of us, and has extensive experience serving as PP. Although he has even bigger things on his plate these days, I will rely on his experience and advice in day-to-day party management as well as in making longer-term decisions.

Party Liaison: Chance Harrison--Chance has an outgoing personality and lots of friends both inside and outside eUS. By declaring himself a candidate for PP, he has obviously expressed a desire to become a leader in the party. However, he is still a newcomer to the party and up until now much of what we have seen from him is self-promotion. I would like to give Chance an opportunity to prove he can be a team player in a party leadership role, and take advantage of his extensive connections to get our message out to an audience we aren't yet reaching.

Public Relations / Media: Lord Dark Helmet--He has really stepped and improved the media presence of our party with the Fat Bastard newspaper, moderating our PP debate, and many other smaller efforts to help our public relations. I would like to see LDH continue in this position and encourage all of our members to publish more articles to promote our party and its ideals.

Treasury Secretary: Joseph Dinero--He is the architect of the Bastard Bank, which should be coming online soon. See the forum for details. He also has real-life banking experience. In addition to the Bank, I would like to work with JD to revisit the concept of the Viagra Security Fund which will add to our growing list of programs to help new players.

Think Tank Director: Olaf Iverstone--Olaf has recently taken the initiative to start his own Helping Hand program to help new players, which I wholeheartedly support. Olaf is full of great ideas and energy and I can't wait to see what else he will come up with.

Proposed new cabinet positions

Elections Director: Emperor Rick--The architect of our last Congress election campaign. His hard work and advice will be invaluable to us retaining representation in Congress. Working together last month, I think Rick and I both realized there is more than enough to do here to make it a full-time job.

Recruiting and Retention Director: Johnny Cache--I want to add some additional structure to our recruiting efforts, and to have someone whose primary focus is recruiting new Bastards and keeping the existing ones happy. As Member Representative, JC (aka Sweet_Baby_Jesus) has already been doing a lot of this work. It is an important position and if elected I will be meeting with him immediately to discuss implementing more formal efforts for recruiting and communicating with current members.

Senior advisors to the PP (informal position): These are folks who are not currently nominated for formal cabinet positions, but in the interest of transparency I wanted to let you know that as PP I would speak to them regularly and consider their opinions.

kodos--One of the most knowledgeable and level-headed members in the party. I value his advice highly and will seek his opinion on major issues.

Zuntale--His perspective and willingness to share it has been invaluable to me personally as I began taking a more active role in the party. He has helped me relate to and understand wider demographic both inside and outside the party, and I will continue to rely on his counsel.
