Austria has a fairly strong Hungary on her Eastern border. On our Western border the US Army has just arrived. Altough these two are not allies but enemies, we can not let a war on Austrian soil happen between them!
Yesterday we signed an alliance with Hungary. I ask the President to propose an alliance with the United States. I ask the congressmen of both Austria and the United States to vote yes for this alliance!
With both powers on our side we can avoid a war between them where the first victim would be Austria. More importantly, we would avoid a civil war between Austria's American and Hungarian population.
I know this idea might not be popular in the Homeland, but please, think of the American settlers in Austria!

And what is more, this war is absolutely waste of time, energy and money.
The Balcan and the Carpathian Basin are full of warlike people, who save their home till last blood, helped by faithfull friends and brothers.
Maybe Austria can be an easy match, but what will happen after it?

Don't worry, there won't be such a civil war. Austria's American population is pretty small by now and I don't believe anyone of them ever supported an alliance with the USA. You're fairly new here, so you maybe don't know that we never had particularly good relations with the US. We were always on opposing sides in the alliance spectrum. Creating an alliance with them would therefore require a big diplomatic effort and would lead to a complete repositioning of our position in global politics.
With our history in eRepublik in mind, this alliance looks improbable. It's very probable however that we would annoy many of our long-standing and proven allies - with Hungary among them - if we made this alliance. Right now it's not easily predictable who will end up in which alliance, but our neighbours will always stay the same. And most of them don't have very good relations with the US as well. I doubt we could still stay friends with them as an ally of the US.
With all this in mind, I highly doubt the feasibility of your proposal and believe that its realisation would only harm Austria's position in Central Europe anyway.
btw - Do you really believe that a war would be avoided if we were allied with both Hungary and the US? If one of them really wants to attack the other, going through Austria is the easiest way to achieve this and this will be done either in a friendly way (possible with Hungary) or regardless of the alliances we have.

Well, i rather believe our neutrality could be achieved by an alliance with both of these powers. And, they can play their games via... Slovenia.
An Austria friendly to both of these countries and not a puppet/buffer for one is what's on my mind...
And if it helps US-Hungarian relationship to improve... (i know now it seems to be impossible, but by time.... why not? i know many Hungarians here who are nice, lulzy people. i mean, they're better than TO-master Serbs or Romanians)

Btw I support the motion. I also should apologize to Schwarzie, who took his precious time to gave a detailed answer, but it really annoys me that someone doesn't despise this game as much as I do.

Jemby2: I think explaining a point of view and talking about/discussing it is much more insightful than just doing stuff without any reasoning why. We had a few Kurucs do the latter thing recently and it never amounted to something productive...

Kathee93: You are mostly right. We can and probably should try to establish friendly relations to the USA. That does however not mean I have much hope that we will be allies anytime soon. But having more friends is always better than having less. We just shouldn't neglect our old friends.

I'm a rl Brit, former MoD of the eUk, MoD of Slovakia and MoFA of Japan. Personally I'm fed up with big countries picking on small countries 'for teh lolz' or in many cases trying to PTO them.
I think you need to ask whether the US would want to MPP Austria. What is in it for them? It does cost 10k cc (over 20G) to do so after all.
My personal prediction is that the US won't pass up the opportunity to try and lay waste to Serbia and Hungary both have contributed to wiping the US twice.
My personal advice would be to focus on getting as many MPPs in common with the USA as possible thus increasing the costs should they choose to try and go through you to Hungary. I'd recommend looking at Poland and Spain for a start.
I'm fed up with small countries getting trampled by larger countries all the time, especially when it is through no fault of their own. Macedonia should have RW'd Swiss and Austrian regions and I raised the issue with both governments. Instead Macedonia held on
and dropped you both in the sh*t. It will be very very difficult for you both to get your regions back off of the USA now.

It's generally a good idea for Austria not to seek enemies, but try to make as many friends as possible, and be a safe haven in the swallowing vortex of was and destruction, because honestly we don't really stand a chance against almost anyone. Even if we have friends, their priorities are always self-centered, so they basically won't liberate us until they don't have anything better to do.
But on the other hand, if we don't help our mighty allies, we can find ourselves cast out from every camp, and let me quote the former Warden of the North:

As France has become a buffer between USA and Macedonia, the USA wasn´t shy and wiped them to get a common border with Macedonia again. Do anybody think they won´t do the same with us?
