I Meta At A Party

Day 3,203, 02:46 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by HebronGazelle

There has been a lot of talk about meta in Congress for some time. Congress are trying to get rid of all the legislations and rules they are meant to follow which are not part of game mechanics, labelled "meta" (meta could also mean anything that isn't part of game mechanics). In this article I am writing a few thoughts about the meta removal and hopefully it will answer some of the questions you may have.
Why Are We Getting Rid Of Meta?

Because people don't like it.

Since we first started using legislation (well, it's not the first time, but I mean since dictatorship was added to the game) there have been people who didn't like it. This was a small number of people at first. The two people who championed legislation, Addaway and Sir Humphrey Appleby, kept writing up and amending more legislation and Congress kept passing it. Since those two stopped their involvement with Congress people have realised that some of the legislation doesn't make sense while other parts are not even followed. Added on to that, there have been one or two things that have happened due to legislation which people didn't like. This meant that the dislike of legislation grew and grew into what we have now.
What Will Happen When We Get Rid Of Meta?

When we immediately get rid of meta it will not effect most people of the eUK in any way at all. All of the rules that Congress, the government and the dictator have to follow will no longer have to be followed. In the short term we can expect that quite a lot of the rules will continue to be followed until people can adapt to life without them. A few things such as how Congress organises itself will be confusing but it is likely that whenever a Congressman wants to propose a change they will just do an article like FightAndProduce has just done for removing meta.

As time goes on the two main things to focus on will be dictatorship and how Congress organises itself. Congress will ultimately decide on the latter (having little effect on ordinary citizens) but the dictatorship will have to be a national debate. It is likely that at some point there will be someone who starts a liberation and when that succeeds we will probably not go back to dictatorship since the cost will be too high.
What Will Replace Meta?

We do not know yet. As I previously mentioned, many of the legislation rules will continue to be followed for a short period of time as people sort out a new system.

Jamesw has proposed some guidelines as part of the TUP Manifesto for Congress this month which could be one possible way of running a new system. An alternative frequently mentioned is to use a stripped back version of the eUK Constitution (the first piece of legislation), which would be similar to the guidelines but with a few more rules. A third option could be the return of democracy which would require no legislation or meta unless Congress feel the need for it to improve communication or any other small aspect.

At the end of the day this would come to Congress to decide, and we don't know what they are thinking just yet.

What happens over the next month could possibly be a very interesting time for the eUK. We could return to democracy, we could see Congress kill themselves or we could even see a civil war as people argue over the right direction. One thing that is very likely is the removal of most, if not all, legislation.
