fingerguns
😁See that? It means this is not an official Fed Party article. Just sayin.
The theme of ‘what to do with new players’ is a common one. It’s really the only thing that matters in a game that centers around community-building. Although there is a clear shortage of new players, there is a horde of 2-clickers who have yet to fully engage and reach for the stars, or whatever. In the last CP election, Tyler Bubblar pitched a cabinet of almost entirely ‘newer’ players (who really aren’t all that new) with the intent of training them up to be the next generation of leaders. Resoula, one of those relatively newer players, countered his pitch by offering up fun and games to help boost general activity and interest. I’m not sure how successful Resoula has really been in this endeavor, but if you say you want newish people to have a chance at leadership, it was hard to vote for the guy who has been President a hundred times.
This question of the next generation is once again the main focus in the election...at least in the eyes of the Feds, but it looks very different this time. We have two former Presidents running against each other with very different ideas about what we need to move forward.
I’m only partially impartial. I am Pfeiffer’s VP, should he win and I will be Orik’s Press Secretary if he wins. They both have permission to use my bewbs/celebrity/whathaveyou as part of their campaign strategy. Fine by me. It’s the work I’m really after, and they really have similar jobs in mind for me, just approaching it from different angles. Let me say upfront that I would be perfectly content should either candidate win this race. I have a sweet gig as the HBIC for the biggest party in the country where I’ve been overseeing a huge resurgence and plotting for even bigger things, long-term. And I would be happy to help any President accomplish their goals, especially when it lines up so nicely with my goals of making a deeper bench of national all-stars inside the Federalist Party.
After talking with many Feds, and others, about this election, it seems the real question is this- Is our system working? Every President does things essentially the same way when it comes to appointments and structure with only minor variations. The people they include are basically the same 15 or so players, just shuffled around in a different order from month to month. Has this been successful in bringing up a new generation of players or has it created stagnation?
Considering I haven’t played in 3 years and I know just about every one of those national players, it seems obvious to me. Many of the leaders in this country were established even back in the day. There are some new faces though. Are those new faces really strong leaders? I don’t see any evidence to support that, although I admit I have very low visibility. I really only see what the average player sees...which ain’t much. I think that’s a problem. If the average player doesn’t see that you are a leader who is doing something, then what are you really even doing?
I know the President is busy. There’s a lot to do and it can’t all be public-facing. Sometimes you just really don’t have time to crank out an article every few days, especially if there’s something actually happening in this game of real political interest. But that’s what all of those secretaries and deputies are supposed to be for! You have a crew of 10-15 players given authority over a particular aspect of the Administration. Hardly any of it is a secret and much of it is meant specifically to serve the public. So why isn’t the public being engaged in a real way? Fuck games, give us something to care about that is relevant to your job! There simply isn’t enough WORK to do to forgive the radio silence from administration after administration. It’s laziness. It’s a culture of laziness. That’s a culture we created and I think must necessarily change.
Pfeiffer has proposed a very bold strategy to change this culture. If there is work to be done, then only have enough people to actually do the work. That does shrink the overall number of seats at the table, but it gives those seats legitimacy and importance that I think they are lacking right now. If those limited seats are actually coveted, people will work harder to get them and will work hard when they have them. That is ultimately a very good thing and as a party president who has always believed the party structure is the best breeding ground for new leaders when properly utilized, that appeals to me. I agree with it. And the Feds worked very hard for many years to put ourselves in a position to EARN those seats, however many there are.
Orik isn’t proposing any fundamental change, but he has expressed that he thinks the problem isn’t with the structure itself, but rather the leadership. Having a lot of seats at the table is a good thing because it’s more opportunity, but the problem is what is being done with it. I agree with that, on its face. On the party level we have always been very good about giving people opportunities if they want them. It is the fastest method to get someone engaged in this game and invested in the community. It has to be properly utilized, of course. Just throwing someone a bone to chew on is not the same thing as training someone up, and unless the goal IS training people, then the party can be just as susceptible to this culture of laziness as I think we’re seeing on the national level. It’s been there at the party level, too. It’s exactly the thing I’ve been working on since coming back.
As of this writing, I haven’t seen much in a way of strategy from Orik to address and fix these problems, but I know it’s what he’s working on.
It’s an important question and I think now is a very good time for us, as a nation, to get our priorities straight. Yes we have a smaller population and yes we all joke about how this game is withering and dying, but doing absolutely nothing to change it is something I can’t abide by. This game is very rewarding and worth playing when you’re doing more than just clicking some buttons and passing the time. Give me something to believe in, guys.

Hey candidates!

Give me something to believe in!
yup
Hey you. 😉
This touches on many of the reasons I've chosen to stop handing out titles and positions like party favours. They're jobs. They require work. Work to get them, work to keep them. People who know my history know that I have booted people mid-term for not doing their job. I'll do it again, if it's necessary.
The size of our community today requires that we take a hard look at how we divide up the work of managing things. Parties and MUs (especially MUs, lately) can and do have a very real impact on the way 'new' players perceive things, and they should be the initial testing grounds where those players learn the game and prove themselves capable and committed. As they do that, they will naturally come into contact with engaged players, with engaging leaders, and will further grow to take up those roles moving forward. Simply handing someone a mediocre title with no real work or substance behind it won't make them hungry to advance.
I want people to be hungry, the way we were when I came up in this game. Every rung up the ladder was an achievement, and you busted hump to get there. If you're capable and committed, you'll rise. Just be dedicated to the work, and to the community it serves. The people who you want recognition from will see the result of your labors, and they will want you on board with them because of it.
And that's why fingerguns is my VP. We see eye to eye on this.
If you believe in no more handing out titles like party favors how about starting by removing the award bars on the eUSA Forums first?
That's a fun thing on the forum, and one has nothing to do with the other. I know you are anti-fun, but not all of us choose to join you in that.
...and just another way to divide citizens into those who have and those who have not.
Also, get rid of the Karam BS, which is yet another way to divide citizens....
Henry, you're way too tense man. Pour a sangria, twist up a small j, sit by the pool and watch the sunset. You've proved yourself, let other people have a turn. Just be there when they f it up horribly and smack 'em between the eyes with a rolled up newspaper, fix their shit, rinse, repeat.
Dude, you need to come visit the land of Oz! They have this new thing. I think it's called free speach. They still tell you her a dumb ass but the allow you to finish your thought first.
Serious, come visit when your not busy. I'll get you a posting to the cabinet! You can yell and scream all you want down here and no one minds, they just stare and blink.
Yeah, I miss being hungry.
I blame it all of T-ball....
