Forward thinking for eNL [Part 1/2]
Bernard Hoffington
Having recently returned to the eNetherlands, the country which I've spent the majority of my time in, i feel like straight away i understand what this country needs to strive.
This article is going to sum up a few of the major points which i believe we should focus on to make our country great.
If there's one thing the eNetherlands should be remembered for, let it be it's mass amount of experienced players. The eNL has provided the world with some of the most forward thinking players in the game and what's best is a large amount of them still play. I'm talking about people like Artemivanov, Luuklag, Garmr, Daniel Parker, Antiko and many, many more.
These are the people that provide experience and political strength to a country, not to mention the countless months of government work under their belt. They create national trust as well as fund and provide the country with their products/resources.
Where are they now you ask? In foreign countries most likely. Some in eCanada, some in eUSA.
We need to bring these players back to the eNetherlands, they may be getting better resources where they are but it's home where we truly need them. Only then with these respected and experienced players will our neighboring nations truly respect us and take us seriously.
During my time in the eUK i witnessed a very criticized military reform which saw the single national MU split into multiple MUs which would house citizens depending on their division and level. This, in my opinion, was a failure.
Returning to the eNetherlands I'd noticed that we too have taken the idea to divide our military into a number of military units. We need to be united!
As a small country our single division military units will hardly make a scratch in the grand scheme of things. If we want to be noticed by alliance members i believe we must revert to a single national army where all our citizens will be hitting in a single fight, gaining more national recognition.
Considering we are such a small country, i believe masses of effort need to be put into creating friends with other nations. Not just for alliances or MPPs but to attract more people to our nation.
When a country is as small as the eNetherlands extra effort needs to be put into our Ministry of foreign affairs. We need 5+ deputy ministers pushing forward ideas and creating embassies in other countries to widen our horizons. If people don't know who we are there's very little chance anyone will be attracted to the idea of moving here and helping us.

Welcome back 😛P
Netherlands is (half) Poland! \o/
Welcome back! Good to see some fresh ideas (allow me to disagree at some points) but most importantly not based on critizing others!
A single national fight doesn't realy work though does it? all fights will be attributed to there level.
The Prince of the Netherlands is back. No more missing numbers. o/
If I'm the prince, your the king Niemand ; )
@Piran, If it doesn't really work with a large population country why would it work for a small one? Sending a handful of fighters to a battle that needs that specific divisions help will barely do anything, plus even if it does the points earned for the lower divisions are nothing compared to the larger ones.
And most importantly, if everyone was in one MU the social aspect and community pros would far improve the atmosphere in the eNL than slightly helping out in some foreign div1 battle.

Welcome!
Artemivanov is allready back for a week now.
A national MU would be nice, but I really think new players feel sooo small when to are in a MU with GOW strenght 20k+....
The reason in part why splitting the national MU into two parts (the NHS and BEF) was more down to a lack of taxation income to support the system. The fact the unit(s) was a political animal where pride was at stake to keep it paid for by taxation only (and a few donations from those running it to keep it afloat). The fact the independantly run MUs could set up in a way to ensure top notch supplies that the national MU couldn't afford to supply caused confusion to the new players.
(opps - slight typo above - it was why the eUK splitting the national MU into several parts didn't work)
The reason for the split was that the eUK was experiencing a mini-baby boom for a while and a decision was taken to put all the new players into the same unit so that they could be taught with other people at the same sort of levels (ie the NHS MU). The already established players stayed in the BEF.
In terms of the splits within the MUs themselves, it has a certain logical sense -
eg, if the division two fighters are winning their battle, then the DO could be changed to get them to prop up damage elsewhere where the fight doesn't look won.
The critisism of the NHS and BEF split and what happened at the end was that it was unaffordable and needed changing. Those defending the situation believed national pride was at stake if we didn't have everyone in one MU - and one or two of those probably wanted the power of commanding the entire army.
Great input Mr Knee, thanks for that o>
And finally, I'm here. Stop publishing articles in the middle of the night if you want to have some competition for the first inane comment. \o/
Welcome back missingno. A quick thought on the MU statement; I think on the main part you are right. As for smaller players feeling small; Thats no issue as they fight in there own division. So they see there own effort whether in 1 mu or different mu's in the same manner. Furthermore, creating less MU's partially solves the lack of active captains.
I wouldn't go that far that experienced players are needed to be taken serious. That could be more the case in a static game but we all know erep isn't. Regarding the contacts they have; thats of course not easily replaced. But then again; a young player that is active international and taking it serious will be accepted very soon.
And imo players don't need to be in eNL to provide knowledge, strength or resources. For the latter they'd better not.
+1 Weekstrom
Regarding GoWs outweighing the smaller players, i think it would help newer players in a single MU as they could provide experience and answer their questions faster than being in a MU with only a few low level people.
Absolutely missingno. That is partially solved by more experienced commanders and or captains but in larger mixed MU's that will work better. At least for as long those experienced players take the young serious. That was something I didn't always experience from all the players when I was young, but the introduction of divisions helped solve that. And let me emphasize that there were also a lot experienced players that did take me and others serious such as Artemivanov and Dave Brinkman.
