Editorial 01: Day 1,315 - How to make a better deal for Australia

Day 1,315, 03:33 Published in Australia Australia by Mr Crumpets

A new eAustralian Senate has been elected, full of promise and keen to do something... so what will they do?

The elephant in the room is the eAustralia/eIndonesia Deal.

Last senate term saw a right royal mess when former MoFA Scotty arranged a deal without taking it to senate for debate or the the vote.

Someone people where unhappy with the fine print, some where angry about not being told and some just hate eIndonesia.

The key problem with most deals, is the process is shady until the last minute and most times just ends up with eAustralia being cornered with a few states as a token gift.

In essence, eAustralia signs eIndonesia's list of demands - it's never a fair deal.

So what do I propose... a Parliamentary Act for guidelines on making any deals what-so-ever.

Proposed eAustralian Defence Deal Act

This act would set out clear guidelines for negotiating ANY deal with a country that has attacked eAustralia.

If through informal chat the country attacking eAustralia expressing an interest in a diplomatic solution, the following procedure should be followed.

1) The Prime Minister instructs the MoFA to approach his counterpart from the attacking country.

2) If both MoFAs agree that discussions should take place to make a deal, they will agree to each notify their MoDs to begin a 24 hour ceasefire from an agreed time.

3) MoDs will release an article announcing the time of the ceasefire, instructing citizens NOT to fight in any direct battles (including RWs) between the country.

4) MoFAs contact MPP allies and advise them of ceasefire and ask they pass the word to their soldiers not to take place in any direct battles between Australia and it's opponent (or an RW to free an Australian state).
5) MoFA makes post in senate forum "secrets section" advising of discussions, where senators can agree, object or make opinions known on what we should make a deal on.

6) At agreed time, MoFAs meet to discuss the deal. Australian MoFA must follow the wishes of the Australian Senate. If the other MoFA offers a deal which matches what the senate wants, then the Australian MoFA can tell his counterpart there is a deal and will now go to the vote.
IF the demands of the other MoFA differ from what the Senate would be willing to vote for, the Australian MoFA must then advise his counterpart they do NOT have deal.
The MoFA must then make the decision of whether to arrange new talks. If that is agreed to, step 2 to 6 are to be followed again.
If the MoFA believes the demands of his counterpart are too extreme, he is to decline another meeting with his counterpart until instructed to do so again by the Prime Minister.

7) Should a deal that would be satisfactory to senate be agreed to, the MoFA will at the same time, post the terms of the deal in the senate and for it to be voted on. If possible in game, the switching of the NE to no opponent and peace proposal should be done at the same time or as soon as possible.

Someone else might be able to write it better than me, but it should give a rough idea.

Clauses could include, that if the opposition MoD fails to post a ceasefire notice, then the MoFA is to postpone any meetings until that notice is made.

I believe there should be some special notes added to the above - minimum requirements that a MoFA must stick by the create a deal.

One for example, is that if the attacking country is holding mulitple eAustralia states, then in exchange they MUST agree to giving eAustralia a minimum of one foreign territory.

That foreign territory doesn't have to be the attacking countries own natural territory, but should be something that can be used as insurance.

Without that, you are NO WAY EVER making a deal. You are just simply signing the demand note of the other country. From there you will never ever ever have an even hand in negotiations.

The other should be a allies clause.

If the other country attacks the natural territory of an eAustralian ally, then the deal is off.

Some may say it's crazy... that we will get wiped for that clause.

So what?

Wouldn't you rather create sabotage and stuff up our enemy, then let our friends get directly attacked without doing much (except the same old, sending troops to that battle)?

Remember allies are your FRIENDS - you are supposed to be more loyal to them... even willing to lose your own country to help them... then getting down on your knees and giving pleasure to your enemy.

That is all for now... I'm off to watch some porn!
