A Newb's Perspective: Interview with Gnilraps

Day 1,541, 05:14 Published in USA USA by Malarkey83

Greetings my fellow eRepublikans!

We here at Something Something news are proud of the overall positive response we've received from our readers. SladeCash and I sat down to discuss this and how we could show our appreciation to you.

Sorry, this is a picture of us after our New Years party...where's the one of us hard at work...

*Cue dramatic music* Here we are, hard at work!

After careful consideration, we decided to give you another interview. But with who? What about if we covered new player questions for the military aspects of the game? But who would be perfect to interview? Gnilraps of course, the EZC militia commander and current Secretary of Defense for the eUSA.

Military questions:

--What was your biggest mistake as a new player?

I was a new player over two years ago. The game was so terribly different that my mistakes might not still be informative. But at that time I spent gold on companies without getting any input from other experienced players about what I was doing. I wasted a lot of gold that way.

--What is your advice to a new player who wants to balance a decent fighting career with building infrastructure in order to eventually become self-sufficient?

Remain focused on the goal. Only fight the 25/25 and save everything else. When you’ve got 40 bazookas, maybe then consider using them to earn some BH Gold. Just consider everything you gain as super valuable. Treat your eRep money as if it is real life money. Save. Be wise.

--How important is it that a new player join a military unit?

In my opinion it is totally retarded to not be in a Military Unit since you are quite literally giving away the daily opportunity to earn two premium items. Even if you don’t want the community, you still ought to get the goodies.

--For those new players who have joined an MU, is it important that they try to complete their daily orders each day?

No. It is important that they try not to waste any fight clicks. If they struggle to make the DO every day, then save your tanks and make them every other day. Obviously make them any day you possibly can, but NEVER get caught having only 12 kills in a day. Save those 12 for the next day and get your stuff.

--What's the best IRC channel for a new player looking for tips on a military career in eRep?

#FedPartyChat of course.

--What do you think of the supplemental training facilities?

You need to budget for them like anything else. Obviously, the .19 one is the best deal. So if you plan to do anything, start there. Remember, you are building your Citizen over time, so don’t waste money on the better training facilities if you are only going to find yourself running out of Gold. Best to save the gold and just train using the .19 facility. Everything is a matter of cost/benefit.

--Do you recommend any add-ons or third-party software to help keep track of important information related to the military aspect of eRep?

I like eRep Advance. Since the last Admin change, though, everything is pretty bitched up.

--Do the QMs and Commanders get annoyed if a commune worker doesn't fight for an extended period of time, but instead sells the supplies?

I don’t get all that torqued, but It really is totally against the spirit of the commune, so don’t do it.

--How can a newer player get noticed in the military context (e.g. for leadership positions like Regiment Captain) if he or she doesn't yet have the resources to fight as many times or cause as much damage as other, more established players.

Most Military leaders are not so much looking for damage as they are activity. Leave lots of little reminders around about how active you are. The rest will happen automatically.

[Editor note: not really for noobs on the next question]
--Assuming a player has gathered enough bazookas and candy bars to undertake a legitimate BH attempt, how does one identify which battle(s) might present a good chance of success?

General/Political questions:

--You stated that your withdrawal from the Presidential race was meant to avoid splitting votes with Oblige against Vanek26. Why, in your opinion, is defeating Vanek important enough for you to step out of the race?

For me it is just a personal dislike of Pfeiffer. While he’s an informational asset, his sourpuss badboy act is so odious to me that I derive pleasure just seeing him lose stuff. Vanek’s fine. Pfeiffer? notsomuch.

--How do the skills and qualities necessary to be an effective CP differ from those of an MU commander?

CP is a massively multitasking job. In my opinion Oblige has set the bar extremely high for anyone who comes after. He is so totally active everywhere, he checks in on everything... that’s his recipe for success. An MU commander needs to manage a few people and deal with the occasional popup problem. The CP is constantly putting out fires and generating activity.

--Do you still plan to run for CP in the future? When?

We’ll see. The desire is there. The opportunity ingame has to coincide with the availability in real life. If that comes to pass, you’ll hopefully find yourself voting for Gnilraps.

And now, what you're truly here to see:
