Good Day!
Week 1 of WestJet Rewards is now in the books, and it was a good week all around. The total pool of money to be handed out this week for aerial kills was 44,000 cc, with an addition 2,500 cc for rank up rewards being handed out. This makes for a total of 46,500 cc given out this week!
We had 19 players apply for WestJet Rewards, and are hoping for even more to join as the weeks go on.
In total, WestJet Rewards members made 7,529 kills, with a total of 7 rank-ups throughout the week. 2 of those rank-ups were lower than the Aviator rank, which means they are not going to be paid for those rank-ups.
Below is some basic info about the program.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a Canadian Citizen
- Must have at least Aviator rank
- Must not be above Wing Commander*****
Special Eligibility
- If a player is below Aviator rank, they can still participate, but can not receive rank up rewards until after they have reached Aviator
Application
If you are wanting to apply to WestJet Rewards you must fill out this application form.
Payout
Each player will receive a percentage of the total pool of money equal to their percentage of total kills done by others in the program. For example, if the pool of money is at 10,000, everyone in the program does a total of 1000 aerial kills, and you completed 100 of those kills, you did 10% of the total kills, and therefore receive 10% of the total pool, which is 1,000.
In addition, every aviation rank that you go up during a week will net you an additional 500 cc, assuming you are not a member under special eligibility.
The money will be paid out based on your aerial kills from the week before, starting Tuesday at Day change, and going until Monday at 23:59. The money will be paid out within 4 days of the end of the weekly challenge. For instance, the weekly challenge ended on Day 4,101, and pay out from that week will be made no later than Day 4,105 (a Friday).

Is the google docs this time around public or private?
Currently it is private, but if there is demand for it, I can make it public. It will be the same document week to week, just switching between a sheet called Week 1, and a sheet called Week 2

Haha, it's only ~10% this time around. I think there are some big hitters this time around.
There was one person who received ~30% of the pot.
If they are putting in 30% of the kills then they probably don't need the handout. Or at least as much. Like I said - cap it. Or maybe make two pools (divide the current amount in 2) and say that the top 3-5 can split one pool and everyone else split the other. You know, good old means testing.
Also, I forgot to say thank you before.
Two things to the above comment.
1) If they do 30% of the kills, and are eligible for the program through all criteria, why shouldn't they also receive 30% of the pool?
2) I'm trying to figure out how to create a mechanism in an excel sheet that would cap someone at a particular amount, and then transfer whatever is left over evenly to everyone else based on their percentages still, without having to go through and figure it all out manually. The reason I'm going to be a big stickler on making sure there is a formula or set of formulas to do it instead of manually is so that if someone were to take over the program at a later point in time, I want the workload to be as little as possible. That was the issue we ran into with the last iteration of WestJet Rewards
A thought I'm having right now is that instead of limiting the % of the pot you can receive, we can limit the number of kills recorded. Something like the Netherlands does, where they only record your kills up to 1000 in a week, and then you can do whatever you want more, it won't be counted. Granted they pay 5cc per kill (I believe, though I may be mistaken), where as we pay from a pot of money based on a percentage.
1) The same reason Tesla Model S drivers shouldn't be getting money for buying an electric car: they don't need the incentive. They're removing money that would otherwise be encouraging other people who need it more to be fighting (at least theoretically). Why join if you're going to get peanuts with the lion's share going to the already well off. (I suspect the real reason enrollment is low is because of general apathy with others thinking they don't need the cash.)
2) I can help you out with a formula. Let me know which approach you'd prefer to take. The kill cap might be easier. If you're interest it'd be easier if you sent me a link. I wouldn't need access - I could make a copy.
