Dear eReaders,

Welcome to edition 2 of the Solution Papers. This second issue is devoted to the career path of the soldier. It is quite possible to become a soldier very early on in your eRepublik career. You will need to look at critical decisions such as military unit, weapons to use, how much and where to fight and the costs of gaining strength. Thankfully, eRepublik offers a wide variety of choices ranging from the loyal soldier to the cold mercenary.

Question 1: Which military unit best suits my goals ?
Question 2: How and where do you get tanks ?
Question 3: How do I gain money to invest in my training and training grounds ?

The first question is the one you need to approach with most care, in the eUK there isn’t a huge military culture but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist elsewhere. The military unit of your choice should be adapted to how available you are and how willing you are to follow set orders, what your chances at becoming captain or commander are. As you can see even within the military career there is a list of questions you need to answer before you start.

The casual military unit will provide you with a daily order to complete. This daily order will depend on the affinities of the leadership with alliances or countries but in most cases they won’t care as long as you don’t have to move to complete it.

Thestate military unit will provide you with a daily order and a supply of weapons depending on what the government decides. In exchange you will have to complete some requirements such as a minimum number of hits. Currently the eUK does not have such a unit but the MoD frequently distributes weapons to complete government set objectives.

The political party military unit will provide you with a daily order and a supply of weapons depending on what the party decides. In exchange they will require some form of party-activity, ranging from membership to participation in political discussions or a degree of military activity. This is the case for most (some would argue all) of the top MUs in the eUK.

The professional military unit providing you with a huge supply of weapons to execute orders. At times this will mean that you are ordered to fight elsewhere then what is set in the daily order, that you may need to move around the world to complete missions in regional wars. While there are examples of state sponsored military units, these can also be entirely private or even alliance sponsored. The degree of orders and activity varies in these professional units but most of the time they require IRC presence during large parts of the day and completely tie you in.

The mercenary military unit will often be tied to fighting for a particular alliance or cause but limits its orders and supplies based on what they get paid for to do missions. These units exclusively exist as an international MU setup often based in big countries.

The second question is answered in part by the first even if you can also acquire weapons through a few other means. So aside from military units, you can choose to become a lone mercenary and find a daily supply through IRC channels #mercenaries is a prime example to find monitored information. You could always produce your weapons but this is of course an additional cost. Lastly there are frequent games and lotteries held through the media for you to participate in. Whichever road you choose, make sure you find a supply system that suits you. The key to being able to concentrate on a military path really stands or falls with this part in particular.

The final question about your income is perhaps the most challenging. Aside from your job which should normally cover your food costs or be a part of supplying you with a sufficient number of weapons for your daily needs. As soon as your two main goals are completed in the body of food and weapons, try to not waste precious hits on the economy, it’s better to have a single Q7 weapons plant with 10 workers and buying raws then having 50 WRM plants in which you work as manager.

What you should be looking at instead is making sure you can earn at least 1 Battle Hero medal a month (save up the Energy bars and bazookas for 30 days) and learn to pick the battles in which you can win one (base yourself on factors such as low priority battles, medals in the previous rounds and then hit hard from the very start of the mini setting the bar high to avoid competition). Next to that you will earn a Hard Worker Medal each month and fighting for your country will also earn you some True Patriot medals. If you consider yourself “fast” and “in the know” you can try starting regional wars for income but the cost to start one is well over 3 gold at the current monetary market prices.

Your Free Training grounds should give you an extra income until you achieve the goal of getting to 4 Q4 training grounds with a 90% contract. Using the 31 day trick (use a training contract 31 days by starting it later in the day as it lasts for 720 hours and not 30 days) your training cost during contract will total 61.897 Gold - 56.916 Gold (from medals) = 4.981 Gold a cost covered easily on the account of the two earlier mentioned medals from working and fighting. (Note that usually between training contracts you will also need a bit of gold to train in full (Net cost of 1.034 Gold a day, lasting 1-3 days).

The total cost to get to that 2 medal utopia of not working to pay for training is:
- 93.5 * 4 = 374 Gold for the training ground upgrades
- 53 Gold for the first training contract
A total of 427 Gold and some discipline.

The time needed using in game focus strictly on this goal will depend on the moments offers are available but after the first month it’s already possible to upgrade to a Q3 Free training ground (counting the Gold from levelling up) Thus boosting your daily training income to 0.336 Gold a day. After that you can most likely be set with a Q4 free training ground 2-3 months later and finish a new upgrade to Q4 for the paying centers every 4-5 months (at an income of now 0.436 a day added to your medal gold). Note that starting Q4 training in your second training ground you will also get 0.01 net extra in income a day. Any company you add in the economy module will slow this process down as all of them have a return on investment that is higher then 2 years under current conditions. Being politically active will speed up the process as you will most likely be able to count some on the help of friends you make without mentioning the extra political medals.

Being a soldier is a choice you make, the strength gap with top players will be huge at the start but as you progress it will get smaller. And the good part is that with the division system your hits actually count starting from day 1. When I started, the gap with the top was roughly 8k strength, today it is still roughly 8k strength; the difference being that where these toppers used to be 99% stronger, today they’re only 20% stronger then me. This means I need to add 3 energy bars to do the same damage a topper does on his base hits where before I needed to add hundreds.

Remember to always fight with honor soldiers !
