CODE was losing the war. That was the narrative that all the newspapers back home were preaching (except George Barker’s). But if you were one of the people on the front lines in the Turkish theatre, you almost couldn’t tell. The Turks were fighting with all the ferocity of a group of soldiers making a dignified last stand. They were formidable, to be sure. But the soldiers of the Pentagon MU were there, standing up for their country’s interests on the world stage.

Stormin, Leroy, DSS, Jd Jack, and Wilker were sitting around the small hotplate that they were allowed to use for cooking while in the trench. Their meals had long since been consumed, but they kept the simple machine turned on so that they could warm their hands.

“I think their resistance forces will strike on our Eastern flank tomorrow.” said DSS, pointing with a stick to part of a map that was hung on the trench wall next to them.

“I don’t know how much more of this our army will be able to take.” Stormin said bluntly.

It was just then that a young recruit from a different MU came winding around the zig-zag in the trench, and nearly tripped over the group of officers. He clumsily got his footing and narrowly avoided accidentally ripping the map in half, as he tried to steady himself.

“Proteus.” Wilker read the name on the recruit’s name tag.

“Yes sir! Sorry sir!” The young man stumbled up and gave them a salute. “I have a message for Pentagon leadership, sirs!” The MU leaders all looked at each other, then looked back at the messenger.

“What’s the message, private?” Stormin asked Paul. His hands stumbled over themselves to pull a folded up piece of paper out of his uniform pocket and hand it over. Just as Leroy took the paper, a stray artillery strike hit nearby, just outside the trench, and a piece of shrapnel found its way into the private’s temple. All the officers ignored it as Leroy unfolded the note and read it to them.

“It says we’re getting reinforcements from stateside. It’s supposed to be some sort of military science experiment. A super soldier or something, developed in a Philadelphia research lab.” Leroy kept looking quizzically at the paper, and Stormin impatiently snatched it and turned it so the rest of the officers could see.

“Project Gritty…” DSS said contemplatively. “I wonder what that could mean…”

“Well whatever it is, I don’t think more help from the states is a bad thing right now.” Jd Jack piped up. They all agreed, and went back to focusing on the hot plate, before the stench from Paul’s body started to annoy them, and they moved to a different part of the trench.

As the world balked at the announcement of Gritty, little did they know that there is well-established prescedent in Philly sports for such a beautiful monstrosity

In all seriousness, there are some basic facts we should walk away with from this.

1: WaWa is better than Sheetz
2: Gritty is better than some penguin or whatever
3: The Pentagon MU is great, and you should join for regular food drops and a great group of friends

It’s just simple math.

Stay cool, guys! And join the Pentagon!
