[Fed] What's goin' on?

Day 2,717, 16:05 Published in USA Argentina by bigcdizzle

Well hello there.

Comeback music

It's been far too long since I've written an eRep article. So hopefully I'm not too rusty to make this interesting.

As some of you know, I've been out of this game for quite a while now. I've been enjoying that strange thing we call real life, and only dropping in every month or so to talk to what old friends are still playing. I had decided long ago that unless something drastic happened, I would probably never come back to this game for any extended period of time. I was quite enjoying my eRetirement to be honest.

Now that retirement is over.

There are few things that could make me come back to eRep, in fact there are only two things that would bring me back from eDead. The first being if Easy Company needed me. I have been EZC to the bone for so long that it's more than an MU bond, it's brotherhood. Luckily EZC is doing better than ever, and don't need any help from an oldfag like me. The second reason, the one that brings me to brushing off my old article gifs, is that the Federalist Party needs me.

^ And you all needed to see that.

So the party that I love, the party that I have spent my entire eLife in, is not doing so good. Activity is dreadful, the party feed is completely empty, even #fedpartychat on IRC is dead most of the time. This is not what we built. This is not what I poured 2 years of work into. The great players that came before put their all into this party, and built it into a political and social powerhouse.

What happened?

I have a theory.

As has happened a few times throughout our party’s history, I look around and see one overwhelming thing permeating the party One cancer that destroys any chance for growth and development of young players. Apathy. As I’ve written before in this paper (though it was a lifetime ago), the Fed party, and especially the older Feds, seem to think that what we did yesterday is good enough to carry us through today, and that’s simply not the truth. We tend to forget that the only way this party became successful was through hard work and passion on the part of it’s senior members. a year ago if one were to post something in the Fed feed, there would be dozens of people (including most of leadership) commenting on it... creating community. Today, when I post something on that feed there is the proverbial sound of crickets.

This is not to say that those in power in the Fed party at the moment are doing a poor job, as a matter of fact I believe that Fed PP Slybabymichele is doing all she can with what she has, but what she has is not enough. It’s hard to build anything successful when there is no one to help you realize it. We as Feds have to be willing to do whatever it takes to support the party. Whether that means dwelling in the past, or building something new.

I know that as an old tyme Fed, I will not let this party die, no matter what it takes. And I will not let anyone stand in the way of this party coming back to its previous glory.

So what’s the plan? If I’m going to bitch for this long about how the party’s in bad shape, then I better have a solution as to how to fix it right? Well that’s still being worked out. As of right now I know one thing, and that is that the fire, the hunger that the Fed party used to have is somehow gone, and no matter how many heads have to be busted, and how much we have to change our systems to match the way the game works now, the Feds have to start rebuilding. I understand that bad things have happened recently, I understand that the game is dying, but the game has always been dying, and bad things have always happened. The difference between success and failure in eRep lies in how you deal with the aftermath.

As a wise man once said “we need to find a way to bridge the gap, and do as traditional Japanese do: Keep one eye on the past, but also one eye on the future.”

Thank you guys for the read, and sorry about the tl;dr. It's time for some changes, and I hope you're willing to make them with me.
