29th US Congressional Peer Reviews +

Day 916, 17:15 Published in USA Netherlands by rainy sunday
The Numbers Don't Lie... or do they?

40 of your representatives have kindly taken the time to participate in this month's peer reviews, answer a few questions about their term in Congress and offer future Senators some practical advice.

A Public Review has been extended due to lack of participation. The announcement was posted in eusforum and not well advertised, for that, I apologize. If you would like to voice your opinion, please visit Public Review of 29th US Congress and give us your feedback. There is an incentive for participation, please see details on review form.

Beginning with some words of advice from your Congressmen for congressional hopefuls and incoming freshman...

What one bit of advice would you offer future candidates and incoming freshman Senators?

First focus on proposals and votes. Then pick an area and understand it well. Then branch out to other areas, until you are familiar with all of congress. This explanation would have been more clear if we had not eliminated committees. Also, ask lots of questions, but don't insult people.

Get out before it's too late. Spending more than a couple months in Congress is not healthy or sane. And especially don't become dead weight. Getting re-elected as many times as you can while not doing anything is stupid.

Listen for most of your first term. There's a reason that things are they way the are; consider these reasons carefully before proposing changes.

Get on IRC, discussion is so much easier on it.

Please, for the love of God, read the topic before posting.

Get educated, post on the forums, have opinions! The worst thing is to become inactive. All work is done out-of-game, so to do nothing more than auto-approve those MPP's and donations is to waste your Congress seat.

Listen to your fellow congressmen and those who elected you, but most of all, BE ACTIVE!

Think before you post, not just about what your going to say, but about what the people who already posted are actually saying. If you don't understand some of their points/logic, ask them to explain it to you. An educated congress is the best congress.

Voice your opinion and do not let the others drive your decisions

LOVEMEMORE

Congress gets a really bad rap. They deserve it. They rarely get shit done and when they do its filled with retardedness. That said, you guys easily can accomplish good shit. Just stop being so stupid; read stuff; realize that congress and its members are little power (so stop acting like you have alot); and for gods sack, DO NOT DO SOMETHING BECAUSE THE MILITARY TELL YOU TO!

read, learn, fight and if you have ideas put them out there oh yeah vote it is so easy even i can do it

Be quiet until you know what is happening.

Pay attention to debate, even if you don't like the idea. It just might make sense. Close yourself to close-mindedness.

Be active, be vocal, and don't be afraid to stand your ground.

Read first before posting/proposing

Don't be afraid to say something or to ask questions. Most of us don't bite and are very willing to help.

Read the forums; look at Mr. Hyphenated's new thread before you start going off as if you know everything.

Read, Read, Read. Post. In that order.

Read the debates before you vote. Never be a rubber stamp and just go with the flow.

If you want people to believe you've done a good job, be active on the forum.
If you want people to believe you're important, clamor for titles and positions of authority.
If you believe the job you've been doing is important, and you've truly done it well, very few are likely to know you've done anything at all.

Make sure you can spare the time and are really running to help your country. not just because you want power.

Read. Read everything you are told to. And don't slack on the eus forum like I did.

Prepare for information overload. Joining a subcommittee is like opening a new book, so much to take in at once.

Be patient your first couple days, the Whips and committee heads need time to put stuff together. Once the ball starts rolling....it gets interesting, so just stay calm.

Elect someone reasonable as the Speaker of the House. Remember that a great number of congressional members are intolerable, power hungry fgts.

Think before you post....read before you post.

A few days after winning your election just sit back and watch how the peppered senators carry themselves. Try to keep minimum wage suggestions to yourself

Before voting on any questionable proposals or wasting your proposals in game, make sure you've visited forum/irc and informed yourself about the issue and of proper procedures. Take your time getting oriented and be active on irc and forums.

Be active on the forums, read debates before voting.

Just play it cool, don't do anything crazy or click any weird links that could link you to citizenship acception forms. Learn a lesson from Syrup! Also, get involved in some things. Join the mentoring program.

Demonstrate (not just possess) a working knowledge of the eUS government before considering running for office.

Participate in all the conversations you have interest in, but be respectful and constructive.

Learn from others

If you know you won't have the time to put towards the game, then it's usually best to reconsider whether you want to run.

Listen to elders but still fight for what you believe in

Be active on the forums and don't say stupid things.

Congress really can be a great way to start out a political career, It's how I started mine.

Be active on IRC and the Forums

tl;dr

Now for the numbers...

Senators were rated on a performance scale of 1-5 (1 being poor, 5 being outstanding)
This month, I gave members the option not to rate a member if they felt they didn't know enough about the individual or chose to decline commenting. Congressional leadership were the only exception, rating required from all who participated. Results are listed alphabetically by state (region). Note: These ratings include Senators who resigned or were banned during the term.
