[MoF] Companies and Income: Part II

Day 5,080, 07:57 Published in Canada Canada by Canadian Ministry of Finance

This is part II of the Companies and Income Series. In part I we discussed all the different methods of earning money in the game. This article is going to outline the basic information you need to know about companies. In part III, we will discuss in more detail the profitability of companies.

How to get companies

Companies cost cc or gold to create. You can create a company by going to “My Places” -> “Companies” and then scrolling down to where you see unassigned companies. There is a button there that says, “Create New Company”. Clicking this will let you see which companies can be created. You can choose food raw material, weapons raw material, housing raw material, aircraft raw materials, factories, or storage. In each type of raw material company, you can create different qualities of company. The most efficient companies in terms of products produced compared to taxes paid are the ones on the far right hand side (Hunting Lodge, Rubber Plantation, Granite Quarry, and Neodymium Mine). These cost 35 gold. Alternatively you can settle for second best and pay 8,500 cc for the one right best. If you lack gold and really need to get producing, this is the option to take, but if you can wait, it is better to purchase the raw material factories listed above.

For factories that produce final goods, you can create food, weapons, housing, or aircraft. Each costs 10 gold to create at quality 1. Alternatively, you can purchase companies from other players by going to “Market” -> “Companies for sale” and choosing the quality and type of factor to purchase. Players can post companies for sale at the value of the company +/- 10%. So a Q1 food company has a value of 10 gold if you were to create it yourself, so a player can sell a Q1 food company between 9 gold and 11 gold. It is always recommended to purchase factories from other players if you can, as it is normally going to be 10% cheaper than just building it yourself. Additionally, it is better if you can wait until Black Friday comes around to build companies, as there is normally a sale on company upgrades of 35% or more.

Holding Companies

In order to work in your companies, or have employees work in your companies, you need to assign them to a holding company. You can create a holding company in the region you are currently located in by going back to the Companies page and clicking the “Create New Holding” button. Your first holding company is free to make, but then they cost more and more money to create new ones, so pick your location wisely.

After your holding company is created, scroll down to your unassigned companies that you just purchased/created, and click the Move to Holding button. It costs nothing to assign a factory to a holding company. If you want to move a company out of a holding company to a different one, you can either pay an amount of money based on the value of the company and the distance it is being moved, or you can use a factory reset token to unassign it and then reassign it for free. You can acquire factory reset tokens from the weekly challenge.

Higher quality factories require more reset tokens. For example a Q7 weapons factory will require 7 reset tokens to unassign it, whereas all raw material companies will only require one reset token to unassign.

Working in Factories

Food and Weapons factories allow you to work as manager. To work in them, you simply need to check the box on the right side of the factory icon for all the factories you want to work in. You will see at the bottom the total amount of energy it will use (10 energy per factory) and the amount of tax you will pay along with the amount of products you will produce or consume in the process. The tax you pay is the work tax of your country and the average wage in that country. If your holding is in a country other than your citizenship country, then 20% of your tax paid is based on your citizenship countries tax and average wage, and 80% is based on the country that the holding is in and their tax and average wage. 80% of your taxes will go to the country you are located in, and 20% will go to your citizenship country. In order to Work as Manager, you must be located in the same region as your holding. The Housing and Aircraft industry do not allow for Working as Manager.

All industries allow for employees. You can hire employees by clicking the manage employees button and creating a job offer. This offer will appear in all countries in which you have holding companies in. As people apply for your jobs and work, you will receive work tickets and will pay their wages. You can assign work tickets you’ve accumulated by clicking the person icons next to the factory icon. At the bottom will tell you how many work tickets you have assigned out of how many you have available to assign, and what your production will create or consume.

Productivity

Productivity will determine how many products your working as manager or work ticket will produce. Each factory has a base production rate that is visible when you create the factory. This base production is then adjusted based on the productivity bonus. The Productivity bonus is calculated using three sources: National Bonus, Region Bonus, and Pollution.

National Bonus
The National bonus can range anywhere from 0% to 100%. It is based on the resources that a country has in the regions under their control or conceded to them. Canada naturally has 100% national bonus in weapons production, 55% national bonus in food production, 55% national bonus in aircraft production, and 30% bonus in housing production. If Canada rents some resources out to other countries, like Granite and deer, then our national bonuses will fall. In this case, food falls to 25% and housing to 0%. In exchange, Canada receives money from the country renting these resources. Canada can also rent resources from other countries. If we rented Magnesium from a country, our aircraft bonus would increase to 65%, and we would pay a rental fee to whichever country we rented from. The national bonus applies to all companies located in that country.

Region Bonus
The Region bonus is based on the resources in the region. The rarer the resource, the higher the bonus. Each region can only have 4 resources, so the highest bonus one can receive from resource bonuses is 18%. In Northwest Territories, we have 4 weapons resources, which makes the weapons production region bonus 14% in Northwest Territories. The region bonus only applies to companies located in the region. Even if a resource is rented to another country, the resource still improves the region bonus.

Pollution

Pollution is created by having a number of companies in the same industry producing in the same region. Pollution is calculated by considering the global production of a certain product, and finding a ratio of that product produced in each region the previous day. Pollution can range from 0% to 25%. Pollution only affects a certain region, and it reduces productivity by its percentage. So a region with 25% pollution in Q7 weapons will see a decrease of 25% productivity points for Q7 production in that region. Pollution can change each day.

It is important to consider all of these aspects when deciding where to locate a holding company. If you locate in a region with a 100% national bonus and 18% region bonus, you can get a 218% productivity boost if pollution is 0. But if pollution is 25%, your productivity is only 193%. The productivity boost is calculated by taking the base 100%+national bonus+region bonus-pollution

Tycoon Pack

You can purchase a tycoon pack for 9.9 Euros or 99 Tokens. The tycoon pack gives you 20 gold and 150 work tickets, but it also increases your productivity by 20% productivity points. So if you had the maximum of 218% productivity, with the tycoon pack you could have 238% productivity.

Conclusion

The choice to have companies is a big one. Hopefully this guide of the basics of companies is helpful for you. In Part III, we will be taking a more detailed look at the profitability of companies. Stay Tuned!
