I'm not educated on the history nor of any current disputes. However the people living in this region prefer to have their nation identified as Macedonia, if they wish to name their country Shelby I will also respect that.

Yes Makedonia is a strong brand name, implicates history heritage, they dont have as they are slavs, they came to balkans nearly 1500 years after the glory of the Makedonian kingdom, and they inveted a national identity cause the many Albanian a bulgarian, also Greek, communities they have. So is only an alteration of history that insult us as Greeks.

Your thoughts as greek are a bit right but not as much as you think. First of all, they are living in significant parts of historical region of Macedonia and if there wasn't such things like WWI, WWII, Yugoslavia, USSR and so on, there could be much possible for them at least still to have nowadays almost the hole Macedonian region as majority (except Tessaloniki. Hint - see ethnic map in 1900s). The so called Macedonian nation as part of Bulgarian ethnogenesis, live there since Kuber - around 670 AD, or from 1350 years at least, 'cause there are some Byzantium(Roman) sources talks about Bulgarian and joint Slavs raids in and later FROM! Macedonian region 2 centuries earlier than Kuber. Moreover, if there was still romanized macedonian local population between the romanized tracian and Illirian, for sure it was mixed with the Slavs settlers and later with Bulgarians...... and so on, and so on... Yes, even if they haven't been bulgarians they are not the ancient macedonians and such claims are insane. But they live there, want to call them like this, most of the countries worldwide accept it, so ?!?
PS: Don't disturb all around about that everything is greek, 'cause it's not. There are even examples from independent researchers from reputable colleges, where during their love to the hellenic culture, they actually reveal that modern greeks are not quite greeks 😉

The majority of the inhabitants of Makedonia in the time mentioned by you had Hellenic national consiousnes no matter the language spoken, even know in pelagonia there is a minority of people they consider themselfs Hellenes no matter the oppresion they felt upon them all those years
You can seek ancient Greeks in Southern Italy and Sicily, in Marselle, in crimaia that will much your criteria, i know this "indipendend" research that walk out to be payed by fyrom and it was cheap propaganda

Guys, remember now that FYROM comes from "Former Yougoslavian Republic of Macedonia" to seperate it from Greece region. They would like it to called Macedonia but Greece is against it, and FYROM was needed so Macedonia could join to UN. Republic of Macedonia is it's real official name.
