With Open Eyes

A certain saying holds that before removing the speck from another’s eye, you should first remove the plank from your own. English speakers who object to the presence of Hungarian articles need to remember that English isn’t the language of Austria either. And even if you were wholly consistent - speaking only in German and demanding this of others - this position would not bring the most benefit to Austria.

It is a simple reality that many people here cannot speak German fluently. And while English is a common second language around the world, it is not universal. Expression in the media is an important part of the game, and an important way you can help to make an impact. Ideas have a way of breaking through language barriers - and this is easier than ever with translator tools on the internet. People should write in a language they are comfortable with and feel they can express themselves in.

This isn’t to say that there is no merit to having articles in a language many can rea😛 certainly there is a lot of merit to that. But nobody should be discouraged from presenting their ideas - and we owe it to each other as a nation to consider these ideas on their merits; not the tongue in which they are written.

Open Eyes

Just as it would pose problems for a nation such as this if we all hid behind separate languages, it would also be problematic if we hid behind our pre-concieved notions about the world. If you come into eRepublik to role play modern day geopolitics, those of World War I era, or any other, you will find yourself in an alien world and be wholly unprepared. This is a game that’s been running for some time, with its own history, events, and relationships. You must be prepared to observe and make judgements accordingly, if you plan to play it very well.

The idea forwarded by some, that we should turn against ONE - in particular Slovakia, wholly neglects simple in-game realities. Slovakia is one of our closest allies, who consistently demonstrate their commitment to this. Notably, for nearly 5 months we had a successful swap treaty with them that granted resource benefits to both of our nations, and without their constant support in battles we would have likely been unable to hold Southern Bohemia during this time. We would only lose it when the whole region was destabilized by an EDEN/Terra invasion - which again found us working closely together.

Their reasoning does not attempt to address these points, but instead focuses entirely on the real worl😛 they feel Slovakia should be a part of Hungary in real life, and therefore close themselves off to the possibility of alliance in game, regardless of the actual relationship between eAustria and eSlovakia. While this line of thinking has many problems, it is particularly out of place in eRepublik - for a group that has left Hungary to play in Austria.

No matter the language, betrayal is a negative trait that nations should not seek to embody. To betray our allies, not based on their relationship with our nation, but instead on pre-concieved, out of game notions, is an idea that should be rejected merits - or in this case, a lack thereof.
