The Old Labour and The New Labour(Not Labour)

The Old Labour

Being a young comrade, when I came to eIreland in late July of 2010 I immediately joined the Labour - The Republican Party, it was under irishbhoy1967's term as Party President, and got to meet a few members of the party. From what I remember Labour was perhaps one of the greater forces that united the Left in eIreland back then.

I did not choose to be part of the Irish Citizen's Army as I only spent 15-30 minutes maximum a day on eRepublik until late September. I always did get some orders from my fellow comrades where to fight and if I needed weapons. I received a lot of help early on which enabled me to be fairly successful for a new player -- who doesn't use credit cards to buy gold.

The December Wipe of 2010 is, since my time being here, the pinnacle of unity within not only the eIrish Left but eIreland too! Some members of Old Labour were divided and others stayed united. There were many people working towards their own political ends, but overall we worked together to achieve such great accomplishments like the formation of the Irish Army and when eIreland only had 3 political parties at one time: Sons of Eireann (SoE), Fenian Brotherhood (earlier known as the "Popular Liberation Front"), and the Irish Union Party (IUP) who still exist to this day.

(Not) The New Labour?

There are often held two views about what the creation of the Independent Labour Party meant concerning its relationship with the 'old Labour'. I will also then share my own personal response to that question as the founder/creator of the ILP.

The Name 'Independent' Makes It Completely Seperate From the 'old Labour'.

This view takes note of its name to be evidence that it was meant to be a labour party that would be independent from the old Labour Party. It could also be an argument for it being open to independent-minded individuals who tend to lean left or incorporate leftism in their ideology.

Wouldn't The Fact 'Labour' Is In The Name Hint That It Was Meant To Be A Successor Party.

This view claims that the fact the party had 'Labour' in its name that it was the successor party of old Labour. Although the majority of old Labour did not move to the ILP, there were still a few who did and some still to this day.

My Account

I will keep this short; I was part of the old Labour Party and had a fairly high view of that party. When I made the decision to put 'Independent' in front of 'Labour Party' I did it so the Independent Labour Party would be separate from old Labour's name and would have a history of its own. It was, in my intention, to be a party separate from the old Labour Party but to not touch its ever-lasting dignity.

Disregard the error, it says " You "

Two Labour's, One Ireland

Today we see the reincarnation of the old Labour with both the Labour Party and Irish Citizens Army existing in the same time as the 'new' Independent Labour Party and its part-affiliation with the Labour People's Army.

- = - = - = - = - = - = - = - = -

These will be an interesting next few months in the eIrish political scene. Can two Labour parties exist in the same congress? I can only hope to see fair play and behavior between the two parties and whatever ends the two work for...they work for the good of the nation.

Until next time...
