Good evening everyone, this is the first article of this newspaper "The Golden Miner". This newspaper will focus mainly on finance things but will also include other stuff like tutorials, tips and so on.
This article is the alpha one as a true first article will be made later. I wrote it quite in a hurry as I realized it could help a lot newcomers, babyboomers or even older ones.
Make money: upgrade your training grounds!
The purpose of this short article is to motivate you to upgrade your weights room or even your climbing center.
The conclusion will be that every player should be encouraged to upgrade its weights room and its climbing center. It makes money and strengthen your force.
One of the main issue with eRepublik is getting money. Let me point this out: you won't make enough money through your job, especially during those economical dark days. And even if its value is quickly decreasing, it is still better to rely on golds. To get golds you only have two options: buy it or win it through medals.
The super soldier medal awards you 5 golds each time you strengthen yourself by a total of 250 points. Therefore upgrading your weights room allows you to be rewarded more often. Here is a small graphic explaining you the benefits to get a better weights room:
This include the strength bonus accorded each day when you work and train (an average of 1.8 strength per day). As you can see, you earn quite more money thanks to your weights room than your job. Therefore while you will increase your strength (better at fighting, getting maybe more battle hero medals or true patriot ones), you also earn more money.
Another thing to improve is the climbing center. Once your weights room is level 4, you could see to upgrade your climbing center. Here is a small table showing you the results with a weights room level 4, taking into account the 0.19 golds for training costs:
As you can see, you are still in positive regarding the earning of golds but the only situation when it is better than a weights room level 4 is when your climbing center is also level 4. Therefore it is better to upgrade your climbing center in one time (from q1 to q4), regarding the money. If you do not care about money (but you should), you could still upgrade your climbing center one by one.
Sadly other training grounds cost money, and quite a lot. Here is a cool tool to calculate yourself the results with thos two others training facilities: Strenght calculator.
Last but not least, during promotions like NOW, the price for upgrading is slightly superior to the price of downgrading:
Therefore you can't really make loses as if you need your golds back you would not lose a lot. It means that loans are safe (you can be sure to reimburse) and your gold cannot be wasted if you change your mind later (but you should not).
To conclude, every player should be encouraged to upgrade its weights room and its climbing center. It makes money and strengthen your force.

Well... I have a level 3 training ground. According to my calculus, I will need more than 2 years to have my golds back (with the medals surpluses) if I take it to the 4th level.
So as I have to make choices, I prefer keeping my gold for upgrading my companies.
Companies do not make much benefits nowadays and as i've said during promotional time the gold you spend on your training facilities can be refund for the majority.
I'd be you i would definitively go for Weights room and Climbing center. But not on the two other ones. But of course it's up to you. As i've said, it's not really engaging golds as you can get it back by downgrading without real loss.
Hmmm... For the training facilities/companies : thanks for the advice, but it depends on your situation and on your objectives, really. I know what my situation is, the way I play, and what I'm aiming for.
And concerning the "engaging without loss thanks to the promotion", I'm suspicious. I think that I tried once that system with a company built during a promotion, and the price I got back took into account the fact I bought it cheaper (I got back less golds than if I had bought the company full price). But maybe I'm wrong, it's just memory.

or you could be smart and exchange your gold for CC, wait for further drops and get an interest on your money rather than losing money in a desperate attempt to catch up with tanks who have 30 000 strenght more than you.
