Major Setback for Operation Gangnam Style

Day 1,905, 15:57 Published in USA USA by Desertfalcon

UPDATED 18:15EREP TIME

Taiwan came out swinging today in a bid to take back the previously liberated region of Jello Beach from the United States. Taking advantage of their timezone, the Taiwanese launched their offensive at approximately 8AM GMT, which was between the hours of midnight and 3AM for most of the United States. The Taiwanese were able to dominate the first few battles and, with the exception of one battle in division 2, they swept the American's for the first six battles to grab a commanding 64-2 lead. They also managed to split some of America's damage by starting a resistance war in Eastern Taiwan which was crushed by American forces.

The Americans would not go quietly though. By battle six the United States was roaring back and had taken commanding leads in divisions 2,3, and 4 and was just below 50% in division 1. Things stayed about the same for the next few hours with the United States taking the stronger divisions easily and almost squeaking out a division one victory. At this point Taiwan still had a huge lead in points, however the U.S. had taken control of the battle. Still, in order for the United States to have won they would have had to have won pretty much every battle between then and 4AM EST. A streak of victories that long would be near impossible, especially when the last few hours of the campaign will take place so early in the morning.

If America were to lose the region, it would set the invasion of Taiwanese occupied Korea back indefinitely and possibly endanger America's holdings on Taiwan. The Taiwanese could also resistance war Jello Beach back to South Korea which would effectively end the war and cause the United States to have to start this whole dance again. Either way an American defeat here will almost certainly force the United States to either develop a new strategy or abandon operation Gangnam style, as it appears that neither side can win unless they have initiative in the conflict. Some possible strategy changes could involve widening the front by trying to create another land border through Japan, or timing the next natural enemy proposals so that even if Taiwan would gain the initiative, their window of attack would be on a Saturday. Since most Americans are at home on Saturday this would take away Taiwan’s ability to attack early and build up a lead while Americans are mostly at work.

If the United States does pull out a victory here though, the war will take a major turn in the other direction. A victory here would give the United States initiative in the conflict and turn the timezone advantage against Taiwan. This still would be a tough war for the United States as Taiwan has shown today that they are a formidable threat, however the luxury of being able to launch attacks at suitable times and plan ahead should give the United States a big boost in conquering the peninsula.

When this article was first written Taiwan still had the lead at 32-67, however it seemed a bit early to call this one for Taiwan. For a while, It seemed as if the United States would be able to sweep the battles for the next few hours, however that has since been proven false. What looked liked might have been a long drawn out campaign has instead turned into a rout with the Taiwanese a mere four points away from knocking the Americans back off the peninsula. Barring a miracle it seems that the United States will have to go back to the drawing board for OGS.
