actually, it's a bullshit reason I've clung to for years.
the closest thing we ever had happen was when Emerick went to jail, obviously unable to log in and do President things. at the time the US President played a big role in the shape of the world, so bizarre as he was it was crazy to lose him. like our RL Presidents Wilson and Reagan, when the President became unable their wives and their people stepped in and did the Presidenting through the term.
a crazy person winning second place then ascending to the Presidency would be immediately Impeached and whatever push button damage he did would be contained.
a not-crazy, even political opponent but not National Security dangerous person in that position would go along with the President's people without kicking much.
so.. even if The Chosen One is hit by a bus, Presidential continuity is assured, and the importance of who got second place just. doesn't. matter.

is it everyone who's not gonna win anyways doing some sort of flex thing? yeah, there's that. not gonna lie.
but in all cases it's about kicking against the establishment.. whether it's Trite of the Tinfoil Penguins or a rival Top Party, the common objective is to drain off some Chosen One votes so it's not a runaway, and show "them" that we're not all falling in lockstep with them. yeah, and then the ego thing.

so why Custer, and it's gonna take some doing to get a lot of you to vote SFP.. we all like to vote with our own Party, but ya know, we don't have to. and voting is anonymous.
in the race to send a clear message, the SFP and Custer represent a lot of you.. if you know (and we all do) how this election is gonna go anyways, and you know there's no good end in putting up a public fuss but still got that nagging feeling about supporting the regime...
