[UPDATED] Activity In Congress ~ Statistics
Addaway
I had a spare hour today, and being bored I had a look at the activity of people within Congress. Every month, the eUK elects a 40 man Congress but gets no real feedback from Congress as to how those congressmen are performing. Displaying this kind of thing was something I intended to do whilst I was Speaker, but never got around to with all that was going on that month.
Now, I'm not one to publish the contents of logs from the Congress PMs, but we can have a look at the number of times Congressmen have been posting within the group PMs, and this can give us a rough idea of which of our Congressmen have been contributing to the discussions within Congress. I appreciate that some people prefer to use the forums for discussion, but there is a much higher number of posts within the PMs and it is just used more, so I've only focused on the group PMs.
The main problem with this data is that I'm naturally only in one of the group PMs, so I haven't a clue what has been going on in the other message, and there are some Congressmen which were swapped over to the other message after the CP election, so for some I only know half the month.
Anyway, here's the raw data for posts in the Group Congress PMs so far this month:
NB: I counted every single post, from massive long paragraphs to one word replies
The black areas are when a Congressmen was only in my PM group either before or after the CP election, not all the time. For these Congressmen, the average posts per day was worked out with the number of posts divided by six days, with the rest divided by the full twelve days. The table is colour-coded by party.
I appreciate that this is not a precise indicator of Congressmen's activity, as it does not take into account the quality of posts, only the quantity.
There were some Congressmen that did not/have not contributed at all so far in the PMs:
Here's some graphs to display the data better:
Raw number of posts from each party as a percentage of the total (1st PM)
and the second PM...
Average posts per party worked out by adding up the total number of posts from congressmen of each party, then dividing by the number of congressmen from that party in the PM.
Note: PCP only had one member in the first PM, so 10 is just the number of times SirRex posted.
If there are any other charts that you would like to see added to this (average posts by party for example) just let me know and I'll be happy to add them.
Cheers,
Adastros
Congressmen
PS: Over the past ten days I've only been logging in for maximum an hour a day, and yet I've managed to post the most times in my PM. I genuinely was not expecting this, but is it a sign that we need to get Congress more active?
PPS: So much for two-clicking...

We're missing an important statistic here in terms of what has been achieved in relation to the posts.
Nothing, obviously.
Not quite accurate. We've been discussing foreign relations and financial matters. Our biggest problem seems to be that not everyone in Congress wants to work for the benefit of the eUK,so there are some significant disruptions. I'd say maybe 50% of the posts are very useful, at least for those of us new to Congress.
Have we done anything beyond signing and not signing a couple of MPPs? No not really
I mean... Kravenn and Sven had a nice long fight about sun bathing.
They're really struggling to find shit to throw at each other now, aren't they
I'm not posting a ton mostly because i'd like to receive input from other congressmen during discussion. It won't help if It's just 3 people talking.
Not a bad idea to call people out on their activity though.
pretty much this. I almost never said anything, but that doesn't mean I wasn't active.
Yeah quantity does not imply quality, but this is only a useful exercise to identify those that are completely inactive.
Do a pie chart (because they look cool) of the number of posts, then do one for posts from each party, then do one of the people in the first PM, then do one of the people in the second PM. Do one of those line graphs of posts per day overall so we can see when Congress was most active.
If you are too lazy/annoyed select the last one I mentioned and do that.
Updated with some Pie Charts, that line graph will take a bit longer to do 😛
The key point here is that several paragraphs in a single post are considered an equal contribution as a single word
Nevertheless, it's still very telling when we have 2 weeks until the next election and some MPs haven't even participated yet
Next time it could be worth counting up the number of words contributed rather than number of posts, agreed.
Should only include the words that actually matters, there's a lot of crap going through the congress pms.
This is really good, and smart idea I was thinking along the same lines as in score congressmen each month on how much they put in to the mails etc

What a pointless exercise. Can I suggest you ask your parents if they'll let you out a little more often
I was not able to be active for the last 2 weeks or so so that is a bust haha... Will be again from now on 😃 LoL... i feel ashamed... 😃
Thank you Adrastos for opening my eyes, as the PM I'm in is rather quiet I didn't realise it was so bad.. I've just made a comment on our MPPs in our pm tho 🙂
Nice to see this

Applaud the idea but not the execution, if you want to start looking at the activity of congress you need a better method or none at all. All of the reasons the numbers above are virtually meaningless have already been mentioned
good job!
When have of the post where yeap voted of trolling I didn't want to lower myself or block up the pm with yeah ill vote yes and then vote yes instead I keep an eye on people asking for citizenships and the important things 🙂
