[UK] Aftermath

Day 3,623, 06:05 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by 10 Downing Street

Thank You

Shortly after 10pm last night, I returned home from a pleasant evening to reports of a coup starting here in the UK. At first I dismissed it as someone trying for a little bit of glory. Then I saw the COs.

The international response was huge. Traditional British allies fought alongside troops from every major alliance to preserve the democracy. Americans, Poles, Irish, Russians and Argentinians toiled side-by-side with British, Macedonian, Cypriot and Spanish fighters. The Presidents of Uruguay and Belgium joined a vast number of Indonesians, Bulgarians and Serbians to protect our independence. Regardless of the outcome, I was both humbled and proud of this remarkable response.

The combat orders on both sides reached crazy levels in the highest divisions, creating two epic battles in division 4 in the first two rounds of the campaign. At this time, I had thought all was lost. With exhaustion setting in, I headed off shortly after 4am to catch a few hours of restless sleep, mentally preparing to face a hostile reception from my country. Because hey, if you're not getting blamed for something as UK CP, you're probably doing something wrong.

A New Dawn

Firmly resigned to defeat, and still as yet unfortified by my traditional overdose of caffeine, I awoke to something quite magnificent. In the four hours that I had managed to sleep, the situation had turned on my head. An assurance came that we would win, and the coup would be a failure.

Furthermore, there came this cryptic missive:

(If for some reason you're using a crappy browser, like Wayne does, here's a direct link: https://i.imgur.com/vN5nsfn.jpg )

Understandably, many might take this with a pinch of salt, given that the Owlery was setting some of those insane epic-producing Combat Orders in the early rounds. Read into this what you may, since beyond this I have no proof to corroborate this claim, and I understand that Ajay is as disliked in his own country as he is in the UK. To me, however, it does make a modicum of sense, and I shall now expound on this argument.

Having had time to analyse the situation since the coup attempt finished, there is no evidence whatsoever that Ajay was involved. It appears that he is being used as a convenient scapegoat in an attempt to cover the real aggressors.

A History Lesson

For those not in the know, my party here in the UK was under the threat of PTO by a recently-arrived player by the name of King William the Great. Indeed, prior to certain information coming to light, he managed to be elected as Party President not once, but twice. A concerted ATO effort regained control of the ailing party, and it has been in good hands ever since.

So I expect many are wondering what this has to do with the MTO attempt.

It turns out compelling evidence was produced to prove that "King" William was, in fact, a certain Ajay Bruno.

Yes, that Ajay.

Ever since this discovery, he has sought to make my life miserable (and singularly failed. Sorry, Ajay!). In response, I have done what I believe I do best - publishing satirical articles, poking fun at this megalomaniac, who consistently refused to confirm his identity despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. I dunno why, but he seems to have some kind of vendetta against me...

In the aftermath of this, despite all our antagonism and strife over the past couple of years, I would like to extend the hand of friendship to King William in an effort to create a truly United Kingdom. But only if he publicly answers Jeremy's question.

Huge Kudos

The Ministry of Cats, an MU I've napped quietly in for almost two years since successive governments seemed to have forgotten about it after I had been endowed it as deputy MoD a long time ago, suddenly came alive. At it's height it reached around 75 members, and I would like to thank all who fought for us, all who shouted in the feeds and all those who supported us once more.

If your name isn't on the screenshots, I apologise, you must have left sometime before or joined after, but your contribution was in no way diminished by this omission.

Furthermore, if you had joined another British MU to fight for democracy, I offer my heartfelt thanks.

Finally, I would like to thank above all those who set Combat Orders for the independence of the UK.

But Muh COs...

It appears I have come under domestic criticism for not setting COs, or setting them too low. I apologise for not being a cash-rich whale, able to set 400CC/mil in Division 4. I had limited resources and did what I thought was best with them.

Now let's be honest. UK Government has never had a great track record when it came to Combat Orders in the time I've been around. Major victories have come through the funding of private individuals and MUs rather than Government-sponsored efforts, which have always been a case of throwing good money after bad as far as I can recall. Even if the whole of the treasury was instantly available, there will always be cash-rich people who will outspend us.

The attack also came at a most inopportune time, at least for those of us in the UK and our allies in Europe who were likely ready for bed or already asleep during the commencement of the coup attempt. This meant that some of the usual sources of COs were not available during the early rounds of the campaign.

And Finally

The past few hours have shown some of the best and worst of eRepublik. People came together for a common and noble cause, yet personal attacks and petty bickerings also surfaced to tarnish an otherwise monumental night. I'm not suggesting we all have a big hug-box (cos that would be not only a bit weird, but go against what is essentially a collaborative war game), but a bit of civility can go a long way and who knows? Might make some friends out of it!

Nevertheless, I'd like to thank the instigators of this coup attempt for helping me to make even more friends from across the world over the past few hours. And Ajay, if it was you, nice try... 😉

In parting, I would like to reiterate that my door remains open to negotiations with any country, regardless of political affiliation, in an effort to safeguard the independence and sovereignty of our nation in this new post-Brexit era. This does not mean that we are turning our backs on our long-standing and newer allies, merely attempting to secure a more stable future for ourselves.
