- Set Me Straight :: No News, No Forums, No Economics, No Real Politics -
Justinious McWalburgson III
Hey Everyone,
So as some of you may have heard. I've been trying to ease myself back into the game and start playing again, but I am increasingly concerned with the changes I am seeing. Conflicting Reports. Rampant Confusion.
I hear horrible things. I hear that the forums have died. That Social constructs have been torn down. I hear that the admins now regulate the economy through mysterious shadow bots that inject currency into the monetary market. I hear that the government has no control over the economy at this time and that politics are not worth it anymore.
I hope these things I hear are lies. I hope they are far from the truth. The economy and politics were the two things that kept me so enthralled in this game. I hope they are not gone.
I hope someone will set me straight.

You heard right
Econ is dead, it's totally destroyed.
Politics is still politics, but the days of people whose policy was insightful is over. Strategy is dead, so people don't really have to think about it, it's automatic...and as such nobody is stretching any more. The death of media didn't help.
😁In short, this.

I believe new forums were made because KT left the game. But people still post on them, alot happens in the hidden section though and the military has its own forums anyway. The economy is messed up, every noob now gets a food company and 3 grain companies, and you can work in ur own company so massive over production. Currency is not worthless, gone are the days of 1 gold a day jobs. Politics is still around and interesting, community has somewhat thinned out. Soldiering is what this game is about now
They transitioned the forum to vB which made them suck more... before they didn't have a search function so they picked an app that had a broken search function. Then they cut out all of the useful boards and had very little left so people didn't post there very often. I don't know how long it's been down now. http://forum.erepublik.com/
They have been tuning the entire game to be more reliant on gold, and then upping the cost of gold. It's clear their intent is to maximize their own profits. They used to post the number of active daily players on the homepage but they quit doing that a while ago. The number dropped dramatically when v2 launched. Then it remained stagnant for some time. Turnover in the game is massive.
The economy and politics never worked very well, but they've nerfed those and all changes that have been made have increased the demand on gold.
It's basically transitioned to a different game. They did it slowly, but it's readily noticeable if, like yourself, you come back.
eUS forums are still around (eusaforums.com) but in-game it's basically clicking. The meta-game has withered.

The eUSA forums are what they always were. If anything, the conversation there is more serious and professional than it has ever been, mostly from the contributions of committed and experienced players. As others have pointed out, the admins have done very bad things to the in-game play. In almost every decision they have made, the admins have encouraged the least mature and most irresponsible players to up their game and continue what they are doing. Maybe they expect that only stupid people will pay them, so they've made the game as stupid as it possibly could be. The economic module could be better - a lot better - you can make a lot of money, but there is hardly anything to buy with that money. This challenges the players to be creative with what they've given us. Too many new players still don't get it, still don't understand the value of pooling resources to get things done. On the SFP side, we've really got an approach to social justice and poverty that we like. Some day we'll be the richest people in the game, you watch.
If this is true, Then I don't know why I came back.
This game, as it's ever been is what you, the player make of it. There's still a small but vibrant community centered around politics or kicking ass for your country. There's still quite a few good writers. Just because the module sucks doesn't mean people should let that discourage them from writing, imo.
If you wanna come back, come back. Check around. Try and find your niche.
