[ACP] As Aussie as Vegemite

Day 1,845, 01:17 Published in Australia Australia by Chris Carnage

I asked my colleagues in the ACP for inspiration, and what did I get? Vegemite on toast! At first I was like, wtf I am supposed to do with that? And then I realised the genius behind that apparently arbitrary and whimsical request.

There's something about vegemite that captures the imagination. A thick, black paste produced as a by-product of the brewing process. Salty and bitter, it smells and tastes a little like a hangover on a hot, Sunday morning at the peak of an Australian summer.

Pasty, black, bitter and salty, a marketer's dream

There are some obvious superficial connections between vegemite and the ACP. Australian for a start. Bearing a proud, red and gold logo continues the obvious connection.

But when you think about it more deeply, as I am wont to do, one cannot help but find deeper commonalities. Vegemite is not a faint-hearted, populist comestible, it is loved or hated. When was the last time someone told you "oh, Vegemite? Yeah, it's kind of OK". Polarising and extreme, even radical, Vegemite is loved or hated, never liked, but always respected.

Vegemite on toast - black and white, a powerful symbol of fraternity. A cheaply produced by-product of an industrial brewing process, yet healthy and vigorous, Vegemite is a friend to the poor, the downtrodden, a nutritional liberator for those oppressed by poverty.

Let them eat cake! For us there can be no other food. From this day forward, all ACP members have committed to enjoying their vegemite for breakfast, lunch and tea!
