Things Change

Day 2,754, 09:34 Published in USA Peru by Jude Connors

Greetings and Salutations, My Fellow eAmericans and Gen. Ajay Gipper Hutt:

Nearly a year ago (almost to the day), I release what was one of my most controversial articles about the state of the eUSA community. In it was a paragraph that today is one of the hot button conversations in the Public Congressional Proceedings. From the simple cut/poaste discussion about the monthly budget, a new topic arose, the Merit of Having an State MU.

(USAF) laid down 16.5 billion in damage. When you add up the damage done by the rest of the top ten military units last week, the "official" military only did 26.7% of the 61.7 billion damage done by the top ten. The majority of the damage done last week by American military units was done by private units like Easy Company, Seal Team 6, the eUS Military, S.H.I.E.L.D., and VMA-214 Black Sheep. Kinda looks like wasteful spending of American tax dollars, amirite?

A year ago in the aforementioned article, the USAF was an entirely different monster. It was consistently ranked in first place in damage, taking the top spot for months before finally being left behind by some PMUs in recent months. It's uncanny to see how much of a nosedive the official government military unit has taken, and it is a bit saddening. But in a game where changes affect the game play as drastically as they do here in eRepublik, it isn't surprising. This is just another indication that proves that "things have changed".

Everyone is stuck in the 2009 model of how to run a MU.
- Molly Emma - Day 2754

Therein lies the problem, people... this isn't 2009.

The USAF was created after the former "official" military defected and became a private military unit. the eUSA believed it needed an MU that directly received its orders from the DoD/CP. With that, various branches of the Armed Forces were created, and another private MU, Ultramarines, joined the USAF and became a branch. For a period of time, even SealTeam6 - another private MU - joined the USAF as a branch. Everything was working well.

Each branch had its own persona. Each branch had its own culture. Each branch was held dear to its members in some way or another. But Plato again changed the game was played yet again and change in the structure of the Armed Forces was inevitable. After a long, drawn out and sloppy restructuring, all of the branches were merged into the sole United States Armed Forces military unit. It is then that things got hairy for our esteemed military.

With no sense of unity or culture to hold together the troops, many deserted the military. Scores of D3 and D4 fighters left for large private military units like Easy Company and War Inc. Others went to smaller PMUs like Bear Cavalry and S.H.I.E.L.D. The mass exodus of the official military has left the USAF a tattered shell of what it used to be. Today, it struggles to maintain an averages of about 15,000,000,000 in damage and is no longer any viable competition to units like EZC and War Inc. Once the biggest damage makers in the eUSA, it now struggles with units like VMA-214 The Black Sheep to maintain third place.

Crap or get off the pot
- President Trekker Tlumac - Day 2753

The discussion will be ongoing by the eAmerican Congress with absolutely nothing accomplished. If there is one thing Congress is good at doing, it's accomplishing nothing. But President Trekker is right, it is indeed time to do something. Here's some ideas, some are mine; others aren't:

1. Mothball the USAF. Use the Defense budget to add more to the Reserves. This option will, of course, be the most controversial and will eventually lead to another pointless Congressional discussion about taxes that will end the usual way - with nothing done by Congress.

2. Double the Budget and Move to a CO-based pay/performance. Molly Emma laid this out in the Budget Discussion. It is a decent plan and probably the best option to "save" the USAF.

3. Mothball the USAF and use the Defense budget to reopen the OMS - Office of Militia Support. This program used to give money directly to private MUs that fought according to the priorities of the Department of Defense/Country President - which is ironically the whole intent of the USAF in the first place. Worried about misuse by PMUs? Assign one person who answers directly to the President/DoD/etc. to all PMUs receiving OMS (public) monies.

This option can also be used to cut the defense budget, still giving additional support to the PMUs that are already carrying the majority of the load of the defense/offense of the eUSA. The other money leftover from the Defense budget can go to the reopening of the Arm America initiative - which put Q7 weapons in the hands of ALL Americans for fights or even go to place COs in more important battles and campaigns.

Personally, I like my idea - the third one - best. But voice your opinion, everyone can post to the Public Congress forums, although they must wait for approval by the moderators. Visit now and SPEAK YOUR MIND!
