The World on Day 1964 - Britain invaded

Day 1,964, 17:30 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Thomas765

Okay, so my previous article was basically just an article testing out stuff, this one is more genuine. Several months ago, I worked with Kravenn to do articles based around foreign affairs, since that is where my main focus on this game is.

To define foreign affairs on an eRepublik level, it's diplomacy, political geography and the effect of war. History has shown that foreign affairs has changed the face of every country in the world, from destroying the infrastructure of a country through perpetual wipe to having a massive global reach, impacting on the countries you occupy and border.

Several important wars are gripping the world right now and each have their own effects and consequences:
- UK, Spain and Chile vs. Argentina and Ireland
- Bulgaria and Macedonia vs. Greece

I'll start with our situation.

We aren't in a dire position yet, although if Ireland still had initiative, it could be worse. Much worse. Fortunately, they can't hold on to a region, so their attempt at gaining Wales was foiled as was their attempt at holding on to Scotland. Their entrance into the war has caused a bit of confusion in the UK, given that we did spend several months with peace up until BlueandEvil got fed up with their congress's antics. However, what does this war mean for Ireland?

Their proposal for peace passed a day before they declared war. So it was a sudden turn around for their CP that had supported peace between our two countries for many months. The British Isles have thus been stabilised. The first and immediately obviously crap reason for the war was the issue of Northern Ireland. Nationalism is something that, for the last year, the Irish have been able to avoid. Why the sudden change? Well, it's very likely that this wasn't the main reason for the war. Sure, it's nice to have an attempt at a babyboom but it's likely that they were asked to by Argentina, who proposed to airstrike a day later. It is likely to have been planned in the short term rather than looking at the long term consequences and benefits of the war, so let's take a look at the short term and long term effects:

Short term:
- War. Due to peace, the Irish have been unable to participate in many wars for their true patriot medals because they are allied with the USA and Canada, the only other nations that border them.
- Activity. A real war encourages activity more than something that has been planned.
- Friendship. They are joining up with CUA, so it's a good way for them to get involved in the alliance.
- Occupation. Assuming the battles were to go awry for Ireland, they could have faced potential wipe.

Long term:
- Aggravated relations with TWO. As a result of their declaration of war, Ireland could potentially face a few hard months ahead once and if Argentina is removed from Britain. They are in an unfortunate position where they border Spain, who could easily set them as Natural Enemy once they themselves are done with Argentina. Spain and Chile only have two regions left to conquer in Argentina before Spain can change their natural enemy. In addition to this, they are in no position to receive any help other than those by MPPs as they are essentially surrounded by countries who are in the opposite alliance.
- Aggravated relations with the UK. After a year of peace, relations between the two countries have hit lows that haven't been seen in a long time. So stability in the region would be challenged.
- Loss of credibility.
- More war. It's what Ireland wanted, right?

With Argentina in our homeland, we are faced with the most serious threat that we've faced since France last invaded. However, we are struggling a lot less than we did when France invaded for the first time in December 2011 during my presidential term. There are several reasons for this:

1. We are in TWO, the alliance which has the most damage attributed to them. In December 2011, we were in ONE and the alliance lost a substantial amount of its power with the loss of Turkey from pro-ONE.
2. Chile and other members of the Circle of Trust have personal gripes with Argentina. We were pretty much alone when France invaded in December 2011.
3. Argentina faces three or four other fronts at the same time.

Argentina also face the threat of Spain and Poland on the borders of the UK, once and if they reach them, which they will at some point. With the UK's reduction in the number of regions, they will soon have a limited number of choices, especially given that Ireland no longer has initiative in the war. There has been the idea of using Ireland as a bridge if we focused on them by occupying their lands, forcing Argentina to attack the Irish mainland and thus opening them up for an attack by Spain and making it more difficult for Ireland to get regions back.

Members of the UK community are also attempting to take advantage of the situation by suggesting that we start a babyboom attempt. So far, there has been some small success in this endeavour in that our population has risen above 2400 citizens again for the first time in a few weeks. The article can be read by clicking here. Meanwhile, Argentina has gained over 5000 citizens as a result of the war.
