The New War Module and eSociety

Day 1,051, 16:27 Published in Japan Japan by Shinybluepope

Brothers and sisters, the time to transform your panties and stockings into weapons for battle has come! A new war module is upon us and we are already seeing its effects (wide spread war, rich mofos dropping serious damage). Many are turned off by the fact one can, hypothetically, go all God Mode by spending tons of money and winning a battle on their own. I am not concerned with this. I am more interested in the fact that we have returned one particular dynamic to this game and it is for the better.

Sexy dynamics.

Erepublik's battles once again allow citizens to involve themselves in a battle quickly, without waiting, and en masse without a specific feeling of independence from their nation. Some may not care for this but fail to see how great the lack of recognition in battles can be for a country's unity, nationalism, and activity. Without a sense of self in our battles, unless you have the dinero to set yourself apart from the herd, citizens identify more with their group. This helps provide Erepublik with one of its greatest aspects: a cohesive community.

Many bring RL nationalism into this game but it is group battles and propaganda that really provide us all with a sense of unity in the game. The problem I found with V2 was that it required thought and time (yes, that is the problem I had with it). Some liked this but, quite frankly, if I was looking for a game that involved thought and my time in battles I would stick to playing Alpha Centauri and call it a day (good game btw). The great part of V1's battle system and the current one is that all you really need to do is click one button and sit around cheering for your country to win.

The lack of control over a situation may actually lead to AWESOME outcomes.

The lack of a great amount of control helps people accept that they must rely on others to move forward. When high percentages of one country's population are involved in battles with other populations, stronger rivalries with other countries also arise. With a greater identification with your grou/enation and a greater sense of rivalry with other countries, activity and cohesiveness improve.

There are definite downsides to this system of pushing many citizens into the anonymity veil of "the group" but if weighed against the pros, I accept the cons and feel comfortable saying FUCK YEAH TIME TO HIT THAT WALL HARDER THAN YOUR MOM.

Speaking of battles n shit, dear JIA 2nd Battalion, the Rebun Demon Squad, we now have our own org, forum section, and funding. We'll be shipping out wherever the hell there is a battle tomorrow as a test run since it seems Japan is in an eternal quiet time unless I have been under a bug keeping me from seeing battles Japan can be involved in.
