The Economist ~ On the Serbian flooding disaster

Day 2,369, 10:23 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Spite313

Dear friends,

It’s not often that I write this sort of article, but I think in light of the fact that I know several people in affected areas it’s a bit more personal to me this time.

Today reports came in on the international media of the worst flooding disaster in Bosnia and Serbia in over a hundred years. So far there are thousands of people evacuated, and tens of thousands more still trapped. The Bosnian and Serbian armies are on the ground rescuing civilians, and the Serbian government has appealed to the EU and Russia to send aid. So far Russia, Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Latvia, and Slovenia have all sent aid and there is more coming.

Despite being on opposite sides, we are all connected by a common humanity and my thoughts and prayers go to the players and their families who are affected by this disaster. I hope that aid arrives soon and the worst of the flooding is over.
