The Economist ~ On the PTO of the USA

Day 1,876, 10:59 Published in Poland United Kingdom by Spite313

Dear friends,

Today I’m writing about the PTO attempt in the USA. As most if not all of you know, there is a large non-American presence in the USA. Partly this is made up of EDEN citizens who migrated there (mostly Romanians and Albanians) during the time the USA was allied with EDEN. Partly it is made up of Serbs, Hungarians and other ex-TWO citizens that were allowed in by Americans who wanted to use their voting power to take over the country.

At the heart of all this is the AFA, or American Freedom Alliance. And the figurehead and most famous member of the AFA is Ronald Gipper Reagan, also known as Pizza the Hut, Ajay Bruno, Winston S Churchill and a half dozen other names. RGR is a famous PTOer, racist and right winger who has been banned many times and yet always comes back. For a while he attempted to PTO the UK before he was banned, and spouted his vile hate against gay people, muslims and anyone non-white in our IRC channels and forums. He’s pretty much universally hated by everyone who opposes these hateful views, which is (I hope) everyone.

The secret to his success in America is balance. As a genuine English speaker, he can present an American face to the AFA, which succeeds in snagging votes from well-meaning but ignorant 2 clicker players. He also presents a neutral party that can represent both the ex-EDEN and exTWO players in his coalition. Both groups think that they are using him to PTO the USA, the truth is that he is using them.

Looking realistically at the situation, PTOing the USA is a bad idea for both groups. Even the attempt is a bad idea. At the minute the USA is neutral, though the President and several others have mentioned possible collusion with/entry into CoT. The USA still, in my opinion, has the opportunity and potential to swing either way. A large PTO attempt from any country will result in the enmity of the USA, which isn’t something anyone wants or needs- whether they’re TWO, EDEN or CoT. On the other hand, a successful PTO provides very little to any alliance, or none.

At the end of the day the PTO group is too disparate to be able to successfully align the USA with any one side. The USA MPPing TWO countries (SerHun or whatever) won’t provide them with extra damage- in fact it’ll do the opposite. The majority of Serb/Hun players who vote in the USA live in TWO countries at the minute, so they can fight. USA players are hardly likely to fight for any country that’s trying to PTO them.

RGR is out for one thing, his own personal victory over the country that’s scorned him for years. He’ll use anyone to do so, even the slavic peoples who he spent so long insulting in the past. Once he wins (and he may eventually do so) he will be in the awkward situation where virtually any decision he makes in terms of foreign affairs will lose him a significant percentage of his voter base. For that reason an RGR Presidency would probably see very few changes to foreign affairs, and for that matter TWO countries (and their allies) would probably refuse MPPs from RGR for fear of angering the legitimate American population.

Back when the first citizens of PHX moved over to the USA (the likes of Zoli and co) it was a running joke that they’d take over the USA eventually. The truth is that a PTO is only effective against small, weaker countries. Under a friendly regime small countries can’t ally with giant neighbours to regain independence, can’t access their finance, can’t attack. However a country as large and powerful as the USA, holding 6+% of the world’s damage and considerably more of its money would face no such limitations. Even under PTO the USA would be a powerful force, and it could use it’s muscle to hurt any country which participated in the PTO.

In short, this article is a condemnation of the USA PTO and the RGR shadow government there. It achieves nothing, and risks a lot. Increasing polarisation and radicalisation of politics, limitation of democracy and elections and the ongoing foreign affairs crisis are the only tangible effects of the PTO. It doesn’t bring more damage to TWO, it doesn’t improve our relations with America, bring us more money or make us new allies. This is no colonisation of New Zealand or Thailand, this is a full scale assault on one of the largest, oldest communities in the game.

I hope that soon TWO governments will come out and similarly condemn the PTO and officially denounce it. Privately most have already done so, but tacit support again achieves nothing whilst hurting relationships. The USA and TWO might never be bosom buddies, but that’s no reason to foist the likes of Ajay Bruno onto them out of spite. On the other hand, the USA needs to re-learn the lesson it learned with iNCi, and attempt to integrate parts of the community into itself. Not everyone who is foreign is an enemy by nature, but the AFA is always going to do well when the USA population is divided between Americans and PTOers. Isolating loyal sub-groups from the AFA and buying them into the American system will simultaneously strengthen the USA whilst weakening the PTO group.

The future for America is a bit bleak right now. The need for famous faces to rally the pro-USA side is pushing out newer players. In the last year we’ve had 12 old players as President there. For the next year we have more of the same to look forward to. Running someone the bulk of the population don’t recognise is a risk they can’t afford to take. PTO is always a bit morally grey, but in this case it’s not just wrong it’s stupid too.
