The Economist ~ Dear Ireland...

Day 789, 17:13 Published in Ireland United Kingdom by Spite313

Dear friends,

I am writing to you today as a British citizen, not as a Phoenix official or as a representative of the British government. I am writing to you as someone with strong RL connections to Ireland, and as someone who can empathise with even the most radical of the people of Éire.

I am writing to you as someone who has seen the actions of the government of Ireland, and can empathise with those too. It is understandable- Ireland is a small country, with a long tradition of creating a lot out of the poor hand the admins have dealt you in terms of raw materials. You have a complex political history, close links with the English speaking world and a long (and honest) history of neutrality.

When Poland invaded the UK, I expected Hungarian, and German, and Serbian help. I expected our good allies the Russians, Estonians and Lithuanians to come. I knew the wall would hold because despite what critics of Phoenix say we do what we can whenever we can to protect our own. And Britain did herself proud adding 350+ thousand damage to the wall, especially good considering our low active population and lack of resources for tanking.

Ireland decided to remain neutral in this conflict, as is her right as a sovereign nation. However, I will tell you this- if Ireland is invaded by ANY POWER I will oppose it. I will move to Ireland if possible and fight against them. I will do my utmost to encourage my country and alliance to do the same. Although decisions have been made which could cause division, I consider our friendship with the Irish people to be inviolate.

In the event of an invasion of Éire I will be there, fighting alongside Padraig Pearse- Despite him repeatedly posting images of dead British civilians, or links to terrorist bomb plots in our public IRC. Because I don’t think reciprocating hatred does anyone any good. I see people who will personally attack a country such as the eUK- which has people of many ethnic, religious and national backgrounds- on the basis of something over which we have no control as sad.

So really this is just a short letter to assure you (the Irish public) that we do not consider your government’s actions to be reprehensible, evil or otherwise offensive. We understand, and most of us will still shed blood defending Ireland regardless. Because a friendship which has been around since the dawn of eRepublik is too valuable to throw away.

Thank you for reading,

Iain Keers
