StewartB - Australian Independent and Proud. (AIP)

Since joining the game I have founded Eureka Holdings and trained up Maverick Goh to become CEO, and he has done me proud the companies are going from strength to strength. A group of companies for people to feel at home at and for aspiring GM's to cut their teeth under guidance.
I have been Minister of Immigration and Currently Minister of Culture.
Have been involved with Launching the eMentor Programme and recently took on 5 apprentices into the Ministry to train our future MoCers.
I am also the AIP Party President for this term which I am immensely proud of. I have been able to grow the party from 56 to 91 Members since taking the position. I am a hard worker and when met with a challenge relish the task.
All this has been amazing fun and the people I have met along the way I cherish. However it is still not enough. I want to do more for the country and for the people of the country.
I need your help though. The REAL power is not us in government it is the people who vote for us. I am urging everyone with a unique idea or the passion to change the country to join AIP and post your idea's on the forum. http://forum.erepublik.com.au/index.php under AIP.
I have been talking to people lately and have the below suggestions I would like to propose to change the way government is now. I want to hear your thoughts and enlist your help in developing them further.
1. Abolish the VAT off food and investigation into how the VAT should be structured on other products.
2. Transparent Government , better communication to the General Public on operation of Government Owned Companies.
3. Public Tender Process for Contracts between Government Companies and Private Enterprise.
4. Less money spent on Centrelink and more time put into Public Training Programmes.
5. All Cabinet Members should be elected officials from Senate to allow better accountability.
6. Public List of what private companies Elected Officials are involved in.
Alot of these idea's are from listening to people but I believe would be a great step forward and will support them by being the voice to them in government. Please if you have any other idea's contact me.

It may not stop the hunger,
Or bring mankind world peace,
It may not make the poor men rich,
Or cause the wars to cease.
It may not calm the roaring seas,
Or stop the poverty,
But the power of one voice can change the world,
And that's all it needs to be!

Many great ideas.

Some comments:
1. A majority of the Government's funds comes from the food market, so you'd not only be limiting the funds avail for Centrelink, but the Military as well
2. Things like this do take time, and if someone has a problem with ANYTHING related to the Government, they should take it up with the Inspector General (on the forums) and he'll find you the answers. You can't expect bureaucracy to be instantaneous 😛
3. The only "business contract" between the Government and private enterprise that I know of (so, it's the only one because anything like that would have to pass a vote in the Senate) is between The National Bank of Australia and Stary City Casino (a small cut of the profits in exchange for forum space)
4. Just so you know, a majority of the funds used by Centrelink are for wages or RM (in the case of Wood or Iron), so by cutting funding, you'd also be slowing down the production of the hospital.
5. How does making them "Senate only" make them more accountable? I thought that by having them as not elected it is even greater accountablity, due to the fact that they may be COMPLETELY REMOVED from the Government if they messed/screwed/goofed up. And in juxtaposition, there is no way to "force" a player to resign their Senate seat in ER.
6. And what, exactly, would this accomplish?
1. This is to encourage the newer players and keeping them in the game. Population growth is our biggest issue and many new players get put off by not being able to pay for food when young.
2. Still alot happens behind the scenes. Well that is what it appears anyway. Especially since the voting is decided before the in game voting on the senate proposals.
3. Great so where do we find the list? Stating this?
4. So centrelink funds for hospital I understand. For Iron does that mean it is used to create weapons as well? Is this in the scope of centrelink?
5. The can get voted out at the next elections if people do not like how they performed. I am not comfortable with people being in government but not voted in by the people.
6. Greater Transparancy as they are elected officials. They should declare any business interests so not conflict of interest.
1. Given the combination of 5 AUD Starting Fee and a minimum wage of 1 AUD, it's entirely plausable/possible for a player to survive until they get to skill 1 (which only takes three days). They shouldn't be trying to "get rich" until later.
2. The voting happens on the forum because most (I can't say all) of the proposal brought forward deal with things that can't be implemented/voted in ER, the reason it's hidden is because of Sensitive nature of some of the proposals.
3. IF you'd bothered to read the policies section om the forum (right beneath the IG forum) you'd see the following post: http://preview.tinyurl.com/starycity" target="_blank">http://preview.tinyurl.com/starycity
4. My apologies, Centrelink doesn't operate the Military Weapons company. However, it does operate the Hospital (Q5) and Housing (Q1 GTC) Companies; and those require wood (and the Government does not operate its own Wood company).
5. You and I both know that a incompetent Senator could be re-elected (due to party voting strategy). By having them as un-elected, they can be fully removed from the Government at any given time. That, I believe, has greater power in keeping a Cabinet Minister accountable than any other factor (esp since a citizen is able to make a formal inquiry into any Minister via the IG).
6. Why limit this to Government officals? Why no make it a "master list" of every ORG in eAus listing who owns/accesses it?
1. Minimum Wage is $1 and food prices have been up to $2.60 at times. Even if money was decreased to centrelink because of removing the VAT the fact that people could afford the food more readily save on centrelink admin and the need to send food through centrelink?
2. Fair enough some things are sensitive but why must all voting in game be either all No or all Yes? Why can't the people against it still register that vote of No in game?
3. I looked at the licence for StaryCity, http://forum.auserepublik.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=652" target="_blank">http://forum.auserepublik.com/viewtopic.[..]t=652 is not obvious who actually owns the casino, how do I know it is not someone within current government? Do you know who runs it?
Be curious does anyone know of any other government contracts? or as DA says is this the only one?
4. Thanks for clarifying that.
5. Of course they could but is still in the peoples hands. At the moment they have no say in the cabinet, it is chosen by the PM elect. Still believe choosing from Senate is the way to go after all we will have 40 to choose from.
6. I am hppy with a master list will add more admin but will serve the same purpose.
I really have to stop ready the news pages, it's so depressing seeing you people bicker all the time.
