Re-elect Seth Ford for New Mexico!

Day 579, 16:10 Published in USA USA by Seth Ford

Hello, my name is Seth Ford, and I wish to represent the great state of New Mexico once again for the June, 2009 term. I have spent the past term learning the workings of Congress as a first-term senator, and I would like the opportunity to use the connections I have made during this past term to better represent you and this nation. In a game as massive as eRepublik, it is easy for new players to get lost, and it can be difficult and bewildering to find the answers to even the most basic of questions. As a senator, I consider community outreach to new players to be my greatest responsibility. I have not yet played this game for two months, and I have benefited from the expertise and tutelage of several more experienced players. I hope to return their kindness. If you have any questions about the game or about my policy positions, please feel free to PM at any time. Now, let me introduce (or perhaps re-introduce) myself to you.

Background & Congressional Achievements
I am dutiful member of the Home Guard, Bravo Company, 2nd Platoon. I am an active member of the UIP recruitment team. For the past month, I have served on the Government Oversight Committee where I have helped to spearhead a drive to keep legislative and executive branches separate. I have also kept my campaign promise to refrain from offering any lulz proposals.

Political Philosophy
I tend to believe that eRepublik provides a poor venue for the replication of the real life political divides between the left and right. I work with all parties in Congress for the best interests of the country. I value cooperation over partisan politics. Does this mean that always agree with my congressional colleagues or even the president? No, however, I strive to remain civil and considerate even in disagreement. For example, Harrison Richardson, the Secretary of State and senator from Texas, and I disagreed over the enforceability of preventing sitting senators from serving on the president’s cabinet, but we reached a satisfactory compromise. I value his input and service to this country even if I occasionally disagree with him on some issues. In the recent dust-up over AAP’s recruiting tactics, I personally apologized to Aren Perry, the AAP party president, for reflexive condemnation of the party’s recruitment tactics without fully inquiring into the context of the issue. I am human. I do make mistakes; however, I can assure you, the voter, that simple courtesy is my guiding star. If I am re-elected, I will continue to bring civil, non-partisan discourse to Congress.

Goals for the June 2009 Term
I will continue to work for greater transparency in government, and I will endeavor to maintain Congress’s prerogatives. It is also my personal mission to be one of the avenues through which new players can learn the ins and outs of this game. When Ananias and Talia finalize the details of a national primary system, I will be deeply involved in the debate over its implementation.
As always, I promise to provide you with weekly voter reports. I renew my promise not to offer any lulz proposals for the next term, and I will maintain my practice of seeking public input through this paper concerning controversial votes in Congress.

Once again, if you wish to hear my stance on any other position, please comment on this article or PM me. I will respond promptly. If I receive a good deal of similar questions, I will post my response in this paper. Thank you for your attention citizens, and please remember to vote for me on Election Day!
