Presidential Update, Day 643

Day 643, 09:25 Published in Ireland Ireland by Aran Tal

My dear friends and countrymen,

In this article I will be discussing a few issues that are of national import at this time.
1. Congress Elections
2. The Supreme Court, Reborn!
3. Military Matters
4. Community Issues

Congress Elections
It is my belief that the President should not engage in direct canvassing on behalf of any political party, hence I stayed well away from the PP elections and likewise will not be encouraging any specific support from you in this article. However, it is vitally important to me and to the country as a whole that we have 40 dedicated, active, trustworthy and honest TDs starting their terms on Wednesday. I encourage you to vote with your head and your heart, and with Ireland's best interest at the forefront of your thoughts.

Seán Power's article here describes those TDs who failed in their obligations, and although it includes his own service record it is a valuable piece of research which I strongly encourage you to consult before voting. Oh, and by the way... you can't vote for me!

All political parties try to maximise their showing in the congress elections and you may be contacted and asked to vote for x, y, or z. If you are asked to vote for someone you have never heard of, then chances are it's a poor show. Put eIreland first, not your party.

On Wednesday morning, for the first time ever, all 40 returned TDs will be contacted by me personally, congratulated and informed of their responsibilities. Next month even stricter proposals are before the Dáil regarding confiscation of reward, or 'medal' money until the end of each term in order to evaluate a TD's performance. However the onus is still on you, the voter, to cast your ballot for honesty and integrity, a real servant of the people, not a mannequin. Don't let me down!

The Supreme Court, Reborn!
The Irish constitution establishes a Supreme court in order to interpret the constitution. The court was nearly set up a few months ago but only two justices were confirmed. I am therefore restarting the process with two of the three justices going through confirmation as we speak, they are Uaithne and Semprini. It is my intention to approach a third candidate after the congress elections.

I am also looking into a bill which allows the court to preside over civil matters, and to head up investigations into alleged misconduct, but the legalities of that bill are tricky as hell to formalise. If anyone has any ideas please get onto me by PM. Thanks are due to Teutorix Aleria who has been of great help so far.

Military Matters
I am told that the military re-organisation has been completed, and once the congress elections are over new lists will become available. This is due to the fact that congress members are not allowed leave the country, and hence, assigning them to an active division is wasteful.

The Greek conflict seems to have cooled down for the time being, but I urge you to stay vigilant. Many citizens are 'shouting' when a new battle commences and the war page should be consulted daily. In the meantime, I have ordered that our second fees be paid for the Lithuanian games which can fill your lives with gore in the event of a quiet Hellenic front.

Community Issues
I have set up a topic on the new forums for An Bord Cit Nua here. This is the special working group for mass birth inflation and I look forward to hearing all your suggestions. Ireland's growth is vital and there are no bad ideas.

Secondly the new citizen message should be ready for Dáil consumption shortly, Cun-Bo-Dawex and I have been working on it for a while and another few tweaks and we should be laughing.

That's it for now.
Much Love
Aran Tal
President of Ireland
