Ineffective
adjective - in·ef·fec·tive
“not capable of performing efficiently or as expected”
- Merriam-Webster definition

Over the last month, I have had the honour of serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs to Henry the 8th. However, I had the displeasure of having to deal with Nebula, the most internally ineffective alliance with no clear chain of command.

The first point I started to realise that Nebula was faulty was two days into the job, seeing that there was a vote done without eAustralia present. (Due to IRC meetings being between 2am-5am). I then started to loathe it about halfway through the term with Infowars, Brigidd and others trying to get eAustralia to airstrike Mexico, despite the constant cries of “Nebula is a defensive alliance!”

Nebula is eRepublik’s FIFA at the moment. Let's get rid of the old guys and their corrupt ways!

Here’s some of my problems and solutions to fixing Nebula:

1. MU commanders have too much power

MU commanders should be there to follow orders and set orders according to what Nebula wishes, not the other way around. Over the last month I have seen the chaos in Nebula first hand with battles chosen on a whim. (For example: The AS on Denmark. I’ve searched through the command thread constantly and found nothing about any vote on the issue along with any real opposition to the proposal bombarded with insults from the Infowars/Brigidd wing of the alliance.)

This issue can be fixed by ensuring that people who shouldn’t be in the command thread, shouldn’t be there. The main council thread should be exclusive for Nebula Command and key government representatives. Keep any MU’s out of the thread and put them into their own thread.

2. There's no real democracy.

I have spent a large portion of the month just trying to figure out where these Nebula captain calls are coming from. Its clear that quite a bit of the voting happens within IRC meetings (Which are at inconvenient times for eAustralia, as usual) if voting is happening at all.

Easy fix, democratise Nebula, give at least a 12 hour window for countries to formulate their decision and vote.

3. Nebula doesn’t have enough damage to protect its own members.

This lack of damage on Nebula’s part results in the requirement for deals with other alliances. This results in quite a large part of Nebula’s time to be spent dealing with business rather than war.

This is not an easily fixable problem and I do not expect it to go away anytime soon but nonetheless is still a problem. One possible fix may be to remember that they are a defensive alliance, not offensive.

Conclusion: How would I fix all of these problems?

I believe that Nebula needs a total reform which keeps MU’s secondary to government. Which makes sure that the MU’s main role is to follow orders at the discretion of the governments of the day, not give the orders for government to follow.

A perfect Nebula would involve a new charter, a democratised system of decisions, more powerful countries, a HQ which is willing to punish MU’s which step out of line and try to start calling the shots.

Finally, the main influence we need to eradicate from Nebula is those there to simply influence Nebula into serving as their own personal army to enforce their opinions. Nebula is not a playtoy of powerful MU’s, it's an alliance which works towards common goals.

Nebula, an alliance which takes it name from a cloud of dust, impenetrable to external view, certainly lives up to this name.

Oh… and here's Infowars being rude towards people with differing opinions, I imagine he'll continue this long tradition of his in the comments below!
