My Take on being CP and what it entails

Day 2,169, 20:37 Published in Australia Australia by Tim_Holtz

Being Country President and the impact it makes is something very serious to consider. With recent events with our Current CP I thought I would write up what I consider to be the most important parts of being CP that while not often considered as big things can make or break a Presidential term.

Media

What makes you well known in a game like this is not only your deeds but your presence in the Media. When I say media I mean not only in-game articles, shouts and all that but also outside forms of communication.

Often you hear “we need more info” or “transparency plox”. This is generally the population of the country wanting to get a progress report. This however is often treated by CPs (including myself at times) as a chore and is getting in the way of you doing work for the nation. That is wrong.

As the CP you have an almost monopoly on the media in the country you are CP of (and sometimes even beyond). The Media is not only for giving out info but also changing the perceptions of the population to encourage goals which you are elected for. Take for example our wars with Indo. When the CP writes an article relating to it be it good or bad news it needs to be both understood by the population and motivational. Remember as CP you are responsible for your country being as successful as possible under the circumstances you have.

An unfortunate example is the current CP articles that are written, although somewhat motivational in a sense they are not unifying and often have political bias in them, even though you are very rarely elected by the vast majority you are the CP of all of your nation’s inhabitants. They also need to be understood that means written in a style that the population understands. This is where both in RL and the current CP fall down. Writing in a complex and verbose manner either makes yourself not very well understood by the population or gives off an air of arrogance or superiority. That’s not a unifying trait and as CP your ultimate goal is to improve the nation very very rarely is breaking up unity a way to do this.

Your attitude in written articles greatly impacts public opinion of you, and ultimately its how you will be remembered, as either a CP who made strides to make the nation better or a CP whose attitude broke bonds of friendship.

Wrap up of Media Do’s and Don’ts

Do
-Write Unifying articles appealing to the whole population.
-Be Motivational
-Write in a manner which makes you understood

Don’t
-Write in a manner which shows negative characteristics such as arrogance or superiority.
-Bring a downbeat attitude no matter the circumstances (you are the leader remember!)
-Misuse your monopoly on the media
-Treat updates as a chore

Management

How you manage your Cabinet, Time and ultimately Country is one of the most important aspects of being a CP. Certain styles of Management can be good under 1 CP and bad for another so I won’t be talking about micromanagement or any other style. What I will be talking about in regards to cabinet is your demeanour and how you treat them.

Your cabinet is an extension of yourself when it comes to eRepbulik. As The Ingame cabinet positions in the politics Tab have no functions they are merely decoration and a bit of info for other countries to see.

What this means is that every cabinet member should be functioning properly. They are literally a representative of you. When you assign someone to be Minister of Foreign Affairs you are saying “I, the Country President cannot do all Foreign Affairs work since I have numerous other jobs, thus this person acts in my stead”. That should mean what they do goes in line with what your policies are or what you have instructed them to do.

How do you get people to be on the same page as you? Treating them with trust and respect is the best way for a decent human being.

It’s as simple as that, treat your cabinet with respect and trust them, sure sometimes there is a bad egg but that doesn’t mean treat all of them with mistrust and disrespect. It’s a recipe for Disaster.

Time Management is also something which is very important as a CP in Australia. You are a leader among leaders in TWO. Without proactive and positive relationships with other leaders within TWO your military and even other goals will be much more difficult. Where does Time come into this? Most of our alliance is in Europe (8-9 hours behind Aus). That means you have be ready to be up at 2-3am to go to meetings, it’s the only reason we are currently (and indeed in Flatty’s first term) kicking Indo’s arse. This means you have to balance your time between being on MANY hours a day AND being up at ungodly hours to do meetings with allies.

How i feel Whenever i am CP

Experience

While there are instances of CPs being successful without having numerous months of cabinet experience they are in the single digit percentile of successful CPs.

What’s that in English?
You are almost guaranteed to be less successful in your role of CP without numerous months of Experience being Senior Ministers in Cabinet.

What’s a “Senior Minister”?
Minister of Defence, Foreign Affairs or dCP (if said dCP actually does stuff)

I recommend either 2-3 terms of very active roles in any of these positions or preferably all of them. When you become CP you need to have knowledge of all positions and knowledge of how you want things to be run. As we have seen this month with the Poland blocking debacle, a lack of knowledge while being in the big chair is potentially a massive problem. Be honest with yourself as well, being a minister in a cabinet and being inactive and not doing your job actively is not getting experience in that role.

Odds and Sods

This is covering a few little things that aren’t big enough for their own topic.

Activity
Be online many many hours a day, if you don’t have that much time to commit then don’t run for CP, remember your job is to improve the nation, not being around and letting things fall into disrepute isn’t fulfilling that job.

Personal Issues
Sure things can crop up that are unexpected but if you know something will happen or that you have other commitments that will encroach on your month as CP then you seriously need to consider not running. Sure it’s a game but you are volunteering for a time intensive job, if you aren’t on enough then you won’t do a good job, remember your job is to lead the nation to greener pastures.

Final notes
Being CP isn’t just a political office, Medal and a powerful position. It’s becoming the person who leads and shapes the destiny of the nation for a whole month. That’s a big responsibility even in smaller nations. Wars, the economy and the welfare of the citizens are put into your hands, and it’s a heavy burden.

I’ll be honest with you, when I first became CP, for 1-2 days I did literally nothing, I knew I was supposed to be doing stuff but it’s harder than just doing it, if you have the correct mindset a Minister and CP are completely different roles. Instead of looking at 1-2 things, everything including the domestic situation is completely up to you.

That’s why I firmly think that not everyone can be a successful CP, however you can’t truly know if they will be good or not until they have done it.
