Subject: Fishing Folk in Corfu

Ipsos Beach, Corfu, Ionian Islands, Greece
Day 4265, ERT 11:00

I stretched soon after we dog-piled out of the helicopter. With my eyes closed I focused on the warm wind and the smell of the Cypress trees and sea breeze. Finally I was back. Ipsos Beach, Corfu. It's been nearly a year. Such a heady, wonderful place. We arrived late afternoon at the Goshawk villa, once owned by the traitor Fogarthy. It was a seemingly humble compound on the side of the mountains overlooking the quaint seaside town. I could spot all the filthy Civs too, littering the golden white sand of our beach. After our attendants put away our things I dashed into the pool with the Metz brothers. Soon after a young Civ couple approached us. They seemed to be the ones looking after the place so we handed them the package Father had given us as payment. They introduced themselves as Spiros and his wife Hyacinth. They were a handsome couple, but their obvious fear of us was a bit grating. After drying off we sat at the bar, playing cards and had ourselves a delicious light dinner with drinks. The heat was unbearable so we settled into our residence as the sun was finally going down. I cranked the air conditioner on full blast. All the local F.M channels were in Greek or playing music we didn’t know and we’d already bored ourselves silly playing cards so we were soon off to bed. We had to be ready for an early start.

I awoke the next morning refreshed, I watched a light wind playing at the white lace curtains for a while before I rolled out of bed. We checked our gear and Astrid and I got dressed in short shorts and skimpy tops, both of us pushing for space in the mirror. When we were done we met with the Metz brothers who were eating breakfast downstairs. Both of the tall, muscular blonde twins were dressed only in swimming shorts. Once we’d finished breakfast Astrid lead us and our hosts, Spiros and Hyacinth, uphill on a steep dirt-path towards a rocky promontory, Spiros called out, out of breath. "Aren't you going to the beach?" He looked very confused. “And why are you carrying Rifles? There’s no deer up here it’s too steep and-”

Astrid cut him off with a sharp frown as she turned ever so slightly around "No we're going fishing!" she spat. She was in one of her moods. The Metz brothers laughed uproariously but poor Spiros didn't get the joke and looked even more confused.

"But the beach is the other way!" Hyacinth said with an almost comical look of confusion on her face.

We ignored them and continued up the path, the Metz brothers still laughing. "Some good spots for some fun after" Stefan grinned at me. "Not too soon, I want to enjoy some fishing and looks like beach will be packed." I grinned back at him.

Astrid was walking close to Karl with her arm resting on his back. We've got quite close to our spotters but can't show any affection back at H.Q or they'd separate us.

At last we reached the top and calibrated our rifles and each of us found a good spot with a clear sight of Ipsos Beach. We had brought spare rifles for the boys to use. They're not bad shots, not great either but it would be good training for them to see how it’s done. A good sniper is only as good as her spotter. But a great sniper doesn’t even need one. Still, they were useful to have around, for a couple of reasons outside of marksmanship.

I ordered the host woman to lay a ground sheet once I was happy with my spot and soon we were all settled down near the edge of the rock. The hosts stood behind us, entirely afraid. I adjusted my scopes for the distance. The beach was starting to fill up but we waited, not wanting to scare our "fish" off too soon.

Stefan called out "Tall skinny dogfish carrying a fry into the waves" I adjusted my scope and scanned the area, quickly spotting him. Closing one eye I adjusted my aim and slowly pulled the trigger, ratcheting back the slide quickly to reset for the fry. Second shot hit and they both fell into the tide, throwing up a gush of pink foam in the waves. "Good shooting" Astrid murmured. She never complimented me without some kind of back hand insult attached. I felt a bit perturbed.

Karl called out "Angelfish walking a fry, wait two fry into the water, south, south east." I watched as Astrid set herself and in quick succession took the woman and one of the kids. I took the other so an alarm wouldn't be raised.

I scanned the area quickly noticing a guy on a jet ski heading out towards a buoy on the north end of the beach. I thought I’d let Stefan have a pop, he had been getting better.. "Dogfish on jet ski, make that two." another had joined him from the other direction. “Right boys, moving targets, Stefan has the left, think you can manage the guy on the right Karl?” Karl nodded. “Don’t mess it up, one shot, one kill” Astrid said coldly. The boys settled themselves in for the shots. I aimed my rifle at the one Stefan was tracking and Astrid did the same for Karl's in case they missed. Two pops later and the riders had fallen limply off. The jet skis kept going for a while. Soon after there was a lot of activity on the beach and the Civs were running about, screaming and waving their arms. It was a funny sight to see, even Astrid laughed along with us.

"Damn that's the end of our fishing." I pouted.

"The jet skiers were too obvious" Astrid said flatly. "Plus I had that fry covered Annie. That was my kill!" she snapped. She stood up with her rifle and perched it on a nearby branch. Before I could tell her to stop she shot. She’d hit the local church bell. The whole town would be in an uproar now, thinking they were under attack.

"He would have screamed his head off if I hadn't shot him!" I replied reasonably.

"You! You're always taking out my fish Annie and I've had enough of you messing around with my fish, my fun!"

"Come now Astrid that’s not fair." Stefan began.

"Shut up Stefan I didn't ask your opinion." Astrid pushed him away ineffectively..

"Don't you talk to him like that!" The host and hostess where cowering behind a boulder, mumbling. They were probably praying.

"I'll talk to him how I like Bright Eyes, he's just a spotter! Father has scores more. I’ll tell Father he touched me.."

I glared at her, Stefan was my favorite of the twins, such a gentleman when it comes to fun time. "You will not!"

She pushed past Stefan and pounced on me. She caught me in the ribs with a fist before I could react. I lashed out with an elbow, catching her on the left eye. She pawwed herself on top of me and tried to wrestle me under her. I suddenly felt a pair of strong hands grab me. Stefan pulled her off me. Karl bent down and held me back

"Stop it the pair of you!" Stefan screamed at us. Our hosts were about to make a break for it. Astrid squirmed out of Stefan’s grip and lithely tumbled towards our Ops. bag. She pulled out a .38 Magnum pistol.

The couple screamed as they stumbled down the trail and Astrid took her time, aiming for their legs. She shot twice and they both fell, cursing us all meekly, in probably every naughty Greek word there is.

Astrid brushed past us and sat down in the shade, getting to work on cleaning her rifle. The 38. Within her reach.

"Well we can still have some fun." Stefan grinned at me blowing softly in my ear, before pulling me towards him. I could hear our hosts groaning in pain below and it was making me horny.

Karl started to move towards Astrid but she swiftly shook her head. I knew she wanted to join in but she was too stubborn. I grinned over at Karl and mouthed Join us, so he joined us for a fun morning. Astrid spent the morning sulking. Our hosts moaned along with us as the echoes of sirens and the wailing of the mourning Civs played on the cooling air from the town below

That evening we headed back to the villa for a late Dinner, Stefan and Karl carried our dehydrated and half bled out hosts back. Our hosts had two teenage children. They gave us funny looks and we heard them talking quietly when they thought we weren’t overhearing about a tragedy at the beach where seven people were killed by unknown gunmen, and wondered if it was the local Corfu Parisans. They seemed disgusted. When they asked about their parents Astrid told them they’d slipped on our morning hike. We spent the rest of the night playing cards and drinking Deltas, a mix of White Wine, Lemon Cordial and Gin with ice. Astrid and I went for a late night jog and the boys stayed behind to keep an eye on the couple and their kids. We didn’t want to have any surprises when we got back. We didn’t talk but then again we didn’t have to. We both hated each other and loved Father. We’d learned to accept our lot in life.

The next day the boys and I went to the beach and Astrid volunteered to stay behind to watch the couple, calling on a sketchy Doctor from mainland Greece that owed Goshawk a few favours to tend to our Hosts wounds. We lazed around the pool as our hosts limped around serving us. A policeman tried to enter the premises on the last day of our stay looking for any testimony on the day of our fishing trip. He looked around the place but found nothing suspicious. The hosts stayed behind the pool bar with big smiles, hiding their injuries. Astrid didn’t bat an eyelid as she stood in the background watching him poke around. I knew he knew we knew he knew we were responsible. He couldn’t prove it though. He got in his crappy, overheated squad car and made his way back to the Strip. The locals had printed what had happened in their local newspaper. We had our hosts translate. They called it the Day of Tears. Lord knows the Greeks invented drama but Day of Tears? Over a couple of Civs and a relic church bell? Pity we won’t be able to come back here, it’s a lovely place. Seems like Father has caught wind of our antics and has an escort ready for us to head back to Jersey. Astrid seems to be the only one glad to be leaving. Probably the heat, she’s been a sulk the whole time. Antío Greece! I can’t wait to go fishing here again!
