Let's Actually Talk about Stuff

Let’s Actually Talk about Stuff

Orik is off publishing an article about a comic book or something. idk. Not anything eRep related. Just people.

I get it. That good people make for a good team. But he had good people this month, and look how that worked for him.

Plus, there aren’t a ton of people around anymore. So like, his people will probably look decently similar to my people. Except I’m going to make Vanek come back and talk to me. Orik can’t touch that one.

It’s not the people you surround yourself with. It’s your ability to motivate them, to direct their abilities to the correct area.

Anyways, let’s actually talk about stuff, and not people. Because we’re going to do stuff, not people.

We’ll start with Pacifica.
I’ve gotten a few terrific lessons on our current Foreign Affairs situation. Turns out, we have some really outstanding Foreign Affairs minds not named Wild Owl. We should try using more of them.

By all accounts, Pacifica is strong, and is well situated in the world. We have a good core, and good relationships that allow the United States to remain whole and intact. We’re chill with Asteria and everyone helps each other out. yay.

But like every month (literally every month), there is trouble brewing beneath the surface. A massive upheaval that will shift the line in the sand. Allies will become enemies. Neighbors will become friends. Dogs will hang out with cats. You’ll be fine with getting Pepsi when you really wanted Coke.

I’ve done all this before. So has the country. We’ve gone from EDEN to nothing to Terra to CTRL to nothing to CoT to nothing to Pacifica (feel like I missed a few). We always adapt. I helped create the alliance CTRL. And while it was doomed from the start, it did a lot to shift us away from Croatia, which had been one of our closest allies for years. I was also a major player in getting us into CoT. Laying the groundwork with Cerb, and helping guide Fingerguns and her team through the actual application process.

And really, it’s unlikely to happen in my term. We talk about these things frequently. And we hoard money and put things off all because we think we’re going to get invaded, or lose our friends.

If it happens, it happens. And if it does, we’ll deal with it like we do anything else.

Kemal brought up something interesting on the WTP Forum. Namely, that we’re being super inefficient with how we handle Combat Orders.

I have no idea if this is true or not, but Kemal is usually top notch, so it’s probably right. Any place we can look to be more efficient, we need to study. We don’t have enough money to throw away hundreds of thousands of dollars on a battle needlessly.
The more money we have in the coffers, the quicker Congress can lower taxes.

If that means we toss a bunch of people at NSC, and make them pay closer attention, then we’re going to do that.
(also, I’m secretly hoping that Kemal has cool spreadsheets that can help us get better at this; hopefully with colors).

I didn’t include the USAF in the first draft of this article. I feel like they get piled on a lot, especially during Campaign Season. It’s not particularly fair, because they aren’t like other MUs, and not all of the same principles apply. They have a very specific role. They provide direct support for the Executive’s wars, while also serving as a training tool to send citizens to other MUs.

The Congressmen who expect the USAF to be the #1 MU in the country, while scrutinizing every single thing they do, and refuse to increase their budget, are just trying to score political points. It’s that simple. They don’t care about the MU, and I’d have a hard time believing they care about the country. They want to weaken the MU, and show their supporters that they are tough on spending. It’s bull.

If there are egregious problems, we’ll take a look at them. But we’ll do it with the Commanders and Officers of USAF. Not just politicos trying to solve the problem in a think tank.

Every MU has issues. And every one of them except the USAF gets to deal with those issues in private. USAF does need to be held publicly accountable, because of the funds they receive. But they do not deserve to be dragged into a witch hunt every few months, because certain Congressmen have it out for them.

I’m trying to go for a more laid back approach to the campaign. Dunno if anyone cares (or even noticed). I know that I personally get tired of reading the same campaign article every month. Substitute a few words, and they’re all the same. I’m aiming for more of a stream of consciousness type article. One that talks about stuff, but doesn’t get into the useless political answers.

Shoot me a PM. My inbox has been blowing up since I announced yesterday. Awesome to hear from old players and people I thought were long gone.

Let’s have a President that cares too.
