This will be my last article and I would like to contribute this to future and current ambassadors 😃

Hello.

If you’re reading this you’ve probably decided to become an ambassador and are wondering how to go about your job. The job of an ambassador is to represent their country and to gather information on the country they are working in.

The Right Mind-set

The first thing to do is to get the right mind-set. Regardless of what country you are working in, your job is to maintain communications between the countries. Even if you are assigned to a country which is a member of an enemy alliance or even at war with your own it is important to maintain a respectful attitude. In other words this means don’t be rude and don’t troll. Even if a country is of little significance now, they may be of importance in the future. Your country may wish to MPP them in the future or if you are at war to come to terms and sign a peace deal. That is when pre-existing respectful relations will make all the difference.

Making Contact:

When you have been given your ambassadorial role you need to get in touch with them. This basically comes in two forms; Forums and IRC. You want to be present on at least their forums, however if possible idle on their IRC channel as well.
If you do not know the forums or the irc channel of the country you are ambassador to then use this link: List of Forums and IRC channels or on the erepublik wiki page here
Once you have found the links introduce yourself. Sign up on their forums and locate your country’s pre-existing embassy. If it doesn’t have an embassy than make one. Make a note that most countries have a section on their forums specifically for embassies from other countries. When you have found it make a post. Keep it simple, informative and polite. Introduce yourself, announce the members of your government and invite people to add you as their friends.

On their IRC channel you want to do a similar thing. Just join the channel and say something like ‘Hello I am the ambassador from Japan, nice to meet you all, I hope to get to know you better. If anyone has any questions about Japan feel free to message me or send me a friend request in game. ‘Insert profile link’.

Another task you can should do in order to be a successful ambassador is to keep an eye on their media. If you scroll down on the home page to 'more news' then you should be able to select and see their local media. By doing this you can find out many things about their country. Are they at risk of a PTO. Are they currently at war or thinking of going to war, how do they feel about other countries? Is their government stable or is it disliked, and so on.

Reports:

As an ambassador you will be expected to provide occasional reports on the country you are working in. Here you want to pass on any information which might be of interest of might be helpful if we want to make further contact with the country. Make sure to provide a list of their minsters.

You can even take this further and publish articles about the country you’re ambassador to in order to enlighten the general public. A great example of this is by the Swiss ambassador to France Monsieur Guillontine

Conclusion:

Being an ambassador is a great job for citizens to fulfil. It gives them a foot in the door internationally, and it gives them a degree of political experience. It also shows that they are eager to get involved and help the country. It is also a great way to get to know people that you otherwise might not have. Erepublik is an international game, with players from as broad a range of countries as South Africa, Taiwan, Serbia, the United Kingdom and the list goes on.

On top of this you know that you are aiding your country. Ambassadors are to a large degree the eyes and ears of a country. Erepublik is a strategy game, and information is an important tool to getting ahead and getting an advantage over your enemies.

Final note from Greatmoff
I apologise if there any mistakes, this was originally written as a guide from me to my ambassadors, I have tried to convert it to a generic guide to help other countries as well. Please feel free to use it if you wish (attribute it to Greatmoff though).

If you are a Japanese citizen then please consider signing up to become an ambassador today. Pm me or apply in the appropriate thread in the MoFA section of the forums.

If you are a foreign citizen why not PM your MoFA and ask to become the Ambassador to eJapan? We welcome ambassadors from all countries on our forums and irc.
