I'll give a rough outline of two situations, then tie them together.

Primary Election Failure

The August 2nd "primary election" broke down, was not able to run its full course, due to eRepublik API failure. But the real failure was before that, in the planning stages. As simple a detail to be overlooked, the known quantitiy of eRep API instability, was not considered when the date was chosen.
API fails on Aug 2, the game mechanics set the Candidates on the 3rd, there's no chance to extend voting another day. That "primary election" should have been set to run on August 1st, to allow room for error, in light of its dependence upon a known unreliable element.

Classic shortsightedness at best, or shrewd dirty planning at worst.
Did the architect of the plan take this into consideration? Did one candidate's organizers recognize the oversight and get their people's votes in early to assure a solid lead before the inevitable breakdown?
Or was it just dumb, followed by dumb luck?

Croatia Needs Our Help, and We Owe Them-- Big Time.

Croatia has historically been one of the, if not the, top allied damage dealer in key American battles. We have let them down at critical points, sometimes by prioritizing our interests above theirs and sometimes by following idiotic direction from EDEN High Command. In any case, decisions made by leadership are carried out by the citizens and military, but the people of Croatia see all of America as one.. one who has let them down.
Croatia lost its last region a week or so ago, while we were fighting to save California, which, incidentally, failed. Now the only hope Croatia has of remaining in the game is through a series of successful elections, starting with this Presidential Election on August 5th. Americans have today to travel to Croatia and take Croatian citizenship, and vote tomorrow for the designated candidate.

The Rest of the Story

The legitimate government of Croatia must win big in all three of the August elections to get back on the map. They need every allied voter from every allied country possible to grab Croat citizenship now while it is "open" (no application, it's done V1 style right from your profile page) and be there for them not just this election but for an extended time.
What hasn't hit the media is that, while there is expected to be enough Citizenship Applications to go around for those "mobile voters" who request to have their American citizenship restored (enough Congressmen with enough grants each to cover over 1,000 repatriations)... we're hoping for thousands, plural, to take Croatian citizenship, so it will be strongly urged that players retain that Croatian citizenship for the next elections on the 15th and 25th.
That "strong urging" will come in the form of a letter in response to your Citizenship Application, explaining as I have above, and asking you to reconsider your request. If you respond that you have given thoughtful consideration but are adamant about wishing to restore your American citizenship it will be granted. Preference will be given to those who went to Croatia through arrangement with the Strategic Air Command and the Form they've provided, which helps track citizens and aids in restoring citizenship when requested.

Facing a tough choice...?

I don't think so.
Look at the Presidential candidates page. It's a choice of no choices, by design. Americans who do not deploy to Croatia are to be funneled to selecting The Chosen One.

The time to put America first has passed. Now is the time to honor our word and help save Croatia. Do not stay home to undermine the game mechanics election on August 5th.
Go now, to Croatia. Grab citizenship. Let Rod Damon know you're there. Vote for Fabius tomorrow.

You can return to America and to your job-- let your employer know you're leaving to vote, if he's any kind of patriot he'll rehire you.. if not, then fuck 'im.. hire in where you can, and let The President know about it. We need our people working here and keeping our economy running, actual citizenship status does not affect where you live and work.

Don't Just Sit There!

http://tinyurl.com/CroatiaATO is the Form to sign up with the organized effort and get Moving Tickets supplied to you.
Ticket supplies may be limited. If they're all out, or don't respond soon, shit the money and buy your own ticket and work on reimbursement later. Contact your Political Party, or The President, or the President-Elect. "I can't afford a ticket" is no excuse if you don't try to find someone who can cover you.

You're welcome to it.

Maybe you find yourself in a similar situation, under fire for speaking out.
Go ahead and take it now, someday you might want to use it.
