Issue 1 - In The Beginning

Day 352, 16:05 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Zycon Industries

Well it is exactly one month to the day that Zycon Industries started business. So to keep our employees and the world up to date with how the business is going we will be producing a monthly newspaper. Each month we'll discuss the state of the business, our plans as well as how we feel the current economic climate is affecting us as well as our competitors.
Well as this is a special event; being our first month and all, we thought we'd do something a little special and will be giving away a free Q1 house to one of our readers, however more about that later on!

This month saw a new learning curve to many players, old and new in eRepublik. The single most important change from Beta to V1 was the creation of raw materials. At first this seemed fine to us at Zycon, however it soon became clear that there was a vast lack of them from the very beginning. This meant slow progress for a few days in our Defensive System Company and we do apologize to the workers for the loss of work during those times. To combat this we expanded heavily into the raw material industry and found ourselves capable of being self sufficient, however, much like other companies we soon found we had far too much raw material and we are now suffering from an inability to sell raw materials at a sustainable price on the market.

Unfortunately many of you may be aware of the current economic recession in the Real world and the eWorld, hence our revised business strategy, in which to better deal with the current and any other situations down the line. We aim to work closely with the government and other industries and businesses to ensure that we can keep running and providing you with the goods you need, but also ensure that we stay afloat and continue to maintain our status as one of the eUK's largest employers; at the time of writing this article, we have exactly 66 employees.

The only way to ensure a better tomorrow is to ensure the right decisions are made today. Here at Zycon, we are heavily conscious about making the right decisions, not only for ourselves but for the good of the eUK and all its citizens. Previous and current decisions have already helped to ensure a healthy profit in our Housing Company not only for ourselves, but also for our employees.
As just stated Zycon Housing has been a rather surprising success with a large response from employees, with some job offers being accepted within seconds of them being posted. As a Q1 company we aim to train up those who want a skill level in the construction industry and then allow them to move on up and keep the cycle of training and development going. The company was originally set up as more of a side business but the future may hold something more for this profitable company, so stay tuned. We hope to continue providing some of the best bargains on the housing market.

Zycon Forts, our Defence System company, was previously set up with a rather generous wage scheme which saw some of our top earners bringing in around £26 a day. This was a decision we made to focus heavily on quantity versus quality. Unfortunately, it saw us paying out a lot more than we could reasonably expect to take in, coupled with the highly unforeseeable mass unemployment, we quickly decided to revise our strategy and change to a quantity versus quality centric business model. This, in effect, meant that we could provide much cheaper products whilst enabling us to hire many, many more employees all blessed with a top notch pay scheme, job security and the satisfaction of knowing they are working for a company that would rather bite the bullet than add to its countries problems.

In the wood industry we've been doing well and decided to establish an additional company in Norway, for the main purpose of supplying the UK and ourselves with wood, should there ever be any unwanted shortages within said market. With this strategy in place, we've been able to maintain a self sufficient system whereby we don't add to the already over saturated wood market and can quickly begin hyping up production should we ever need it. Due to the current economic situation we have temporarily suspended work in Norway to allow the market a chance to revive itself, by not adding to the current over supply situation.

Whilst there is usually good news in a situation, more often than not bad news follows swiftly behind. In this section of our first article, we shall bring to you the sad and sorry news that our weapons branch will be shut down for the time being, due to a mass of supply, which is a result of the wars being temporarily halted. We had to let our workers go, but spent time to ensure that they were suitably looked after by offering them job applications with other branches of Zycon. For those of you affected we do apologise, but I can say that we will be re-entering this industry with a bang, once we decide the situation is favourable.

Those are the main points in which we decided to discuss in our first of many monthly articles and all of us at Zycon hope you have enjoyed reading it.
