Interview with former country president Daniel Parker!

Day 1,813, 15:09 Published in Netherlands Argentina by KiraBee

Hello good citizens of the eNetherlands and welcome to The Honeycomb!

First of all, I would like to thank the Ministry of Coaching for this great contest,
for anyone who missed the article: the goal was to write an article about a
former country president.

For former CP I chose to interview Daniel Parker. In his term as CP he had to
deal with the eNetherlands being wiped off the map by Poland and he managed
to regain two regions not through warfare but through diplomatic means.

There was heavy resistance from the eDutch community to how he handled the
situation, that is why I choose to interview him knowing this will appeal to older
members and inform the "rookies" about some ehistory.

I hope you enjoy this interview.

Q: Lets start lightly, what would you like to tell all the new babies to become a
great eDutch citizen?

A: Well, that's not really a light question in my book 🙂 New players are essential to this game, and should be taken seriously. Most important thing is to learn a bit about the game, have fun doing that, and make friends in the meanwhile. Consider eRepublik as playing a game of Risk, but with a social/political expansion-set.

Q: In your term of CP you had to deal with the eNetherlands being wiped from the map by Poland, how would you describe the atmosphere in the eDutch community?

A: Back then it was quite desperate, ePL conquered us for the X time, and because of some heated discussion on IRC made the Polish want to bury our country permantly, and resist all resistance wars. We weren't in EDEN back then, and although we had some powerful friends, we were at the mercy of ePoland. It took quite some effort to convince them to let us back on the map.

Q: You were CP after Antiko, as far as I see Antiko was always focused on fighting the Polish. You eventually made a pretty cheap deal with Poland. Did you experience any difficulties negotionating due to the former CP being so hostile?

A: Yes, quite. The ePolish were really negative against the eNetherlands when I started out as CP. Said we didn't follow previous agreements (which is true, but so did the Polish). I wasn't really interested in who was right, I just wanted us back on the map, and with quite some ePolish prominent citizens being against that, it wasn't easy. We had to stay realistic, it's bit the story of David and Goliath, you know... a fairytale. 😉

Q:When you proposed your deal with Poland to the eDutch community, most people found it rather difficult to accept. How did you manage to convince most people?

A: Well, not most people I guess, but it was definitely a heated debate. Loads of people thought we were giving up. Actually I started an initiative to start collecting a war-chest or liberation-fund with gold, so we could rent some hard-hitting tanks to RW. Sometimes a retreat is the most strategic thing you can do in war.

Q: How were the 24 hours awaiting the voting, because with the eNetherlands wiped off the map most of the new players probably wouldn't be here.

A: Us oldies we're getting used to it, we were of the map longer I believe. But yeah, many new players join the game in a region that resemble RL, but which is occupied in eRep. Correct me if I'm wrong, it's a long time ago, but I believe we had an article up explaining the ordeal to all citizens. (I searched for this article but failed to find it, if you know where to find it please link to it in a comment. Thank you!)

Q: When you look back on your time as CP, do you think you gave it your best and you were the right man for the job?

A: Tough question, being CP of an occupied country is a tough job, and takes a lot of time. I gave it all I got, but I paid for it IRL I'm afraid.

Q: Do you miss being CP of the eNetherlands, and why?

A: No, not really. I'm way too busy IRL at the moment (new work, new love).

Q: eNetherlands is still at 2 regions, do you think it will be possible for eNetherlands to regain all 4 regions? Or what needs to change before we would be able to?

A: I guess only a gamechange or a massive babyboom could do the trick. Maybe the admins can put global warming in eRepublik, so the region resources change 🙂

Q: Are there any wise words you would like to share with us, being a veteran to eRepublik?

A: Trust is the most valuable resource you have in eRepublik; it grows slowly, but can be lost in a blink of an eye.

I hope to have informed and amused you, vote up and let me know what you think about it.
