HAPPY DAY OF INDEPENDENCE, CHILE! Greetings from Bulgaria!

I and all bulgarian people want to greet you for your Independence day, Chile!

On this day, 201 years ago, Chile claimed independence over Spain and after 7 years defended it on the battlefield, defeating the Spanish army. On the 12th of February 1817, the Chilean army was led by Bernardo O'Higgins, who later became "director supremo" of Chile.



"En 1810, comenzó el proceso de la autodeterminación de Chile, con el establecimiento de la Primera Junta de Gobierno, iniciando un periodo conocido como Patria Vieja, que duraría hasta el Desastre de Rancagua en 1814, cuando las tropas realistas reconquistarían el territorio. Las tropas independentistas, refugiadas en Mendoza, formarían junto a las tropas argentinas el Ejército de los Andes, comandado por el General en Jefe José de San Martín, que liberaría Chile tras la batalla de Chacabuco, el 12 de febrero de 1817. Al año siguiente, se declararía la Independencia de Chile, durante el gobierno del director supremo Bernardo O'Higgins."
