For Valhalla

Day 998, 07:10 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Joniff

Dear newish players,

For the first time in v2, I took to the battlefield last night, a mixture of alcohol and a bizarre sense that those Canadians can’t take Vestlandet, I viewed the map and watched the first tentative steps as around 30 or 40 eden warriors started to make their way across the map from the left hand side, destined for our hospital towards the south.
It’s hard to just stand by and watch, so I thought bugger my precious hoard of gold, went off into the market and tried and purchase a q5 tank, none, I mean, just in a few countries I checked, none, so I plumped for a q4 with max ammunition, cost 1.12 gold, well you can’t take it with you into eDeath. Quickly returned and deployed myself smack bang in the hospital – well, I’m no hero, just a four month old noob with a q4 tank and no fighting experience. At this point the battle had been going for a total of around 5 or 10 minutes and other than a stream of Canadians, I saw very little movement on our side.

Incoming: Well before I knew it, the hospital was surrounded; I had just previously witness a Brazilian and Serb, die valiantly on the bridge before. And now it was my turn to die. What was this, I launched my attack out of the hospital, against this rifleman, and won, wow, that was easy. I lost no health and more important, damn that felt good, some poor random kid in the suburbs of Toronto had been my first kill, and what was this, some stats came up and said +5 for the annihilation. It felt like a reward for job well done. Of course, it was now the turn of that pesky enemy and I was slaughtered, the whole hospital taken in one quick swipe.

Retreat, retreat: well in the north was located our city, another hospital and this time a lovely defence system. So I hurriedly rejoin the battle and attentively watched, by this point I could see a few allied troops mingling around, but the horde had made the quick trek towards us from the south. Bam, again they had us surrounded, but what was this, against my expectations, we won. I felt a tinge of what it means to refer to the thin red line. For myself, I killed some cool dude in a q5 tank with veteran experience, it wasn’t me, but the defence system, but a win is a win, and my reward came with another +5. Being the confirmed chicken that I was, I returned to the safety of the building, and watched the Canadian army die at the hands of a few brave allied combatants that had ventured onto the map. As the turns unfolded, the UK forces increased, and I saw a push going south to return our original hospital. By now, there were even a few UK citizens on the map with names that I recognized – it felt good to see them for the first time not as a forum post or an irc comment, but as cold hearted Canadian killing machines, weapons in hand, making live decisions.

Glory: by 6 am, with a combination of luck, using the hospitals, I had personally killed a couple more Canadians, nothing to regale the army with, but I got stats every time someone in my hex attacked or was attacked, so I didn’t feel I wasted my time.

So.... tonight you too, can join me as a noob death machine and take your first blood. What else are you gonna tell your grandchildren: the time you bought cheap food on the UK market. Grab a weapon, skulk in the buildings and watch those Canadians die.
