Festive Season

Day 2,943, 00:45 Published in South Africa South Africa by Gambit LeBeau

Seasons Greetings! ... ... Again.

I would like to wish everyone in eSA and around the globe a happy festive season.
It is a time to relax and unwind, (if you are not working straight through), spend time with crazy family members - being thankful you only see them once in a blue moon. Its also a time to get drunk with friends and eat as much food as your stretchy Christmas pants allow.

Here is a little something to get you in the festive spirit.

*******************************
Around Christmas time in Sweden, one of the biggest celebrations is St. Lucia's Day (or St. Lucy's Day) on December 13th. The celebration comes from stories that were told by Monks who first brought Christianity to Sweden. St Lucia was a young Christian girl who was martyred, killed for her faith, in 304AD.

(not the actual girl, just the traditional dress worn on the day)

Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple (the Second Temple) in Jerusalem. Hanukkah is observed for eight nights and days, starting on the 25th day of Kislev according to the Hebrew calendar, which may occur at any time from late November to late December in the Gregorian calendar. It is also known as the Festival of Lights and the Feast of Dedication.

*******************************

Ōmisoka, New Year's Eve, is the second-most important day in Japanese tradition because it is the final day of the old year and the eve of New Year's Day, which is the most important day of the year.

So whatever and however you celebrate this festive season, do so responsibly...
